I agree and disagree with many, but none have resonated with how I as a person or a member of our community feel. The reason I have not written a letter supporting the coal mine, because I thought only those opposed should. I want our country to be self sustaining and I believe we should be able to support ourselves with our energy needs. We are sitting on some of the richest coal around. I have ancestors that worked the Coal mines in Colorado, and I know it was not a good life, but many of them loved their life and were proud of the jobs they had. The country and land that gave them the opportunity to support their families with jobs, and a home. This work created a unity with those whom they worked and struggled with. I too have traveled back and forth to Colorado, and have seen the amazing care that has been taken in minimizing damage control visually and environmentally. We have made such amazing progress over the years. I have hope that we can harvest what is in our own backyard and not have to rely on foreign fuel sources. Yes, it is just a start, but a start it is! I would even support "Wind Farming" out in my front yard if it would help with our energy needs, I know we have wind to spare. My father was a Truck Driver. There were things we learned from him before he passed away. He would stop in places where people were friendly, and treated him with respect. He loved these little towns and wanted to support their way of life. We could simply add to our way of life here in Panguitch, by continuing to be nice to the drivers of the coal trucks when they stop for coffee in our shops and/ or stop for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They will continue to return, if we treat them right. We lived on Main Street for many years. The boats and vehicles that came through town at 4 am to make it to Lake Powell early during the summer, didn't buy groceries or sleep in our Motels either. I now live where I see trucks everyday, coming and going on the road in front of my place. The road isn't paved and it does get rough, but the amazing county workers keep it repaired. This business does bring income and jobs for the truckers in to our area. I would love to be able to have my children move back to Panguitch", if they choose to." We have a need to be able to support our schools and families with employment. We have an amazing country and people from all over the world come to see it. I believe we can have both the beauty and the resources to sustain us and others here, in the area if we work together to have it all and not limit our dreams.
