Show The Garfield County Insider February 4, 2010 lex It seems like elections never end. The mid term elections will be in November and this is a very important election for Utah. Senator Bennett term is up, as is many Congressmen and State Legislators. Local elections that impact Panguitch are the position of County Commissioners, County Clerk, Tax Assessor and Tax Collector, so if one of these spots are of interest to you, throw your hat in the ring. There seems to be a good deal of interest in the Commissioner spot here in Panguitch. `Cow Tax' idea smells bad? The Government is increasing pressure on those who produce greenhouse-gas emissions, in the form of $175 per cow. The money would be used to regulate carbon dioxide and other green house gases and would cost the Utah ranchers $104 million a year. How about $ 10.00 lb for hamburger? The Real Salt Lake soccer team is coming to Panguitch High School on February 9th for an assembly, which will be held at 10 am. Real Salt Lake won the American Professional Soccer Championship last year and will show off their winning trophy and talk about the great game of soccer. Real is the only professional team that has ever won a championship in the state of Utah. All of you Soccer enthusiastic call Mrs. Rember to see if you can attend. The Homecoming Queen this year is Breanne Bateman, 1st Attendant Jaeyln Dodds, 2nd Attendant Baylee Vasquez, and Miss Congeniality Sydnee Palmer. Thirteen young women competed. The talent and beauty of these girls is awesome, surly the best in the state. I am glad I wasn't a judge. Homecoming wouldn't be the same without the competition of Mr. PHS. King - John Mudge, 1st Attendant Dexter Humphreys, 2nd Attendant Kaizaac Porter, and Mr. Congeniality Alan Reynolds. Shawn Caine took 16 Future Business Leaders America (FBLA) students to Snow College in Richfield for a business competition last Tuesday. They came home winners! ! The big winners of the group were Tyler Brinkerhoff and Mason Orton. The Website for the Quilt Walk Festival is up and running. Go to quiltwalk.com . and you can see the classes that are being offered. Registration is possible also. Times and places are not available for the events because there are some changes and additions, so keep checking the site for updates. On the way home from the game in Piute we ran into some fog. The next morning Pat and I went up highway 89 on our way to SLC. The temperature was 10 degrees and the fog had turned the road into a winter wonderland. You almost felt like putting Christmas ornaments on the trees. Our SLC trip included seeing our grand daughter Teah, and taking her car up since she has had Shawn's car since the snow dumped on us. Another reason why we went to SLC was to see Halie Sawyer play at the U of U Girls Basketball game The arena at the University is a magnificent building to hold an event. As you walk around the outer arena there are these 10' banners of the players, and there was Halie bigger than life. Halie and Kalee Whipple were featured on the program for that game also. The score board displays the Ute player when they score. It was fun to see Halie on the big screen. There was a big crowd, about three thousand, because they were playing the dreaded BYU Cougars. Halie's family took her out for dinner Friday (night before the game) she got food poisoning and was up all night throwing up, they put in IV's to hydrate her. She did start and the Utes were a head when she went out, but the Y took advantage of her absents and took a seven point lead. She came back in and the Utes cut into the lead. She played only about 4 minutes in the second half and the Y ran away to about a 20 point win. The Y had a player, Haley Hall, who was a 5'4" guard, who killed the Utes scoring 28 points. After the game Halie and Kalee signed autographs for about 200 fans. It was a fun day and this is Halie's last year, if you get a chance go on up, it will be worth you while. Halie has been on the team for 4 years and a starter most of the time. She makes us proud at Panguitch. Trac Norris at a track meet at Boise State won both the 1600 and 800 meter races. Trac set an indoor record in the 800 meters, with a time of lmin. 52 sec. for UVU. Trac is in his first year, and is making a name for himself already Congratulations to all the students at SUU that made the Dean's List. My Granddaughter Teah Caine made the Dean's List at Utah for the forth year with a GPA of 3.95. I think this tells what a great educations that is being offered in Garfield County. If you have a student on the Dean's List at another College I would be thrilled to let the world know. Bill and Judy Prince have another grandchild, Tiffany had a baby boy this week, and mother and baby are doing well. The Prince's have been our long time neighbors, and I hope they are home for good. Keep the good stuff coming. LEARN 2009 BIG GAME DRAWING ODDS The odds of drawing a Utah big game hunting permit in 2009 are now available in a Division of Wildlife Resources report. "The drawing odds usually don't change much from year to year," says Judi Tutorow, wildlife licensing coordinator for the DWR. "If you're going to apply for a 2010 permit, you'll probably be interested in knowing what the odds were that you'd draw that permit in 2009. "And the best part is, you can view the report for free." If you have access to the Internet, you can view and download the 2009 Bucks, Bulls & Once-in-a-Lifetime Bonus Point and Drawing Statistics report for free. To find the report, visit the big game information page at wildlife.utah.gov/ hunting/biggame. Once you're there, scroll down to the big game statistics & drawing odds portion of the page. Then click on 2009 bucks, bulls & once-in-alifetime bonus point and drawing statistics. |
