Show city officers to be elected A regular election tor for officers ot of fillmore city will be held on november ath according to a recently enacted ordinance of fillmore city this ordinance was enacted to supplement the 1939 legislative enactment amending the direct primary law with respect to towns and cities ot of the third class it is our understanding of the ordinance that its primary purpose is to detine define the manner ot of nominating candidates for the various offices for the ensuing term the ordinances provide that such officers may be nominated by petition the petition sall contain the name of the officer or officers to be nominated and in addition to minor statutory requirements shall be signed by 25 qualified voters who reside in fillmore city such petition or petitions may be tiled filed will the city recorder not more than 30 or less than 15 days before the date of election when tiled filed the petition will have the effect of placing the officers names in nomination arid and the names of such persons so nominated will appear on the official ballot the editor has given tile the election laws recently enacted by the state legislature along with fillmore cites ordinances applicable to t 0 election some study and is of the opinion that names may be placed upon the official ballot by a regularly called nominating primary by any of the established political parties in a manner similar to those held prior to the enactment of the direct primary law just what method will be followed by candidates seeking office at the 0 says V election is not known it is lit lan an il 1 the intention of the legis athae axe as well as the local administration to provide the voters a full and tree free opportunity to select their of officers aice rs by by ederds exercising in g t heyo voters ter S franchise and it is hoped that all aspirants will avail themselves of the opportunity to submit their candidacy to the voters insomuch as we approached this subject we just as well provide our readers with what little information we have as to the likely candidates for the various offices in doing this we are frank to say that what follows in this respect is purely the gist ot of street talk of persons sponsoring their favorite candidates we have not attempted to secure an expression from any person named in this connection and should anyone whose name we use desire to state ills his position as a candidate we hereby tender him full opportunity to use the columns of the progress for that purpose we shall proceed to mention a few of the names of persons whose friends have mentioned them as qualified for the various offices first oft off of 0 course we have heard some state that the present city official family should be reelected reele cled as they have given us a good administration tra tion in opposition to such statement we have heard it forcibly put that not a single member now in office should be reelected elected re for mayor of course we have heard many suggest that mayor kelly be reelected elected re one can also hear bear ample comment in opposition to this suggestion others who have been mentioned as likely candidates are councilman 0 A anderson whose term as councilman expires alonzo beauregard ras has R N mcintosh mark alark paxton it II D johns reuben davies lavoy kimball george R huntsman attorney milton melville maurice lambert and perhaps others whom we have not heard mentioned some of those mentioned tor for mayor have also been mentioned as calmen 11 particularly lavoy kim evl 1 and mark alark paxton others who will have much support tor for councilman positions are wayne robison Rob laon milton warner newel warner 0 G day LaA lamoyne loyne melville anell robison and lorenzo hanson the other elective officers are treasurer and recorder mrs airs lottle lottie robison and wm win mitchell will each have support to succeed himself a and nd as these offices pay a small salary at least it may be expected that there will be additional aspirants we may add in conclusion that considerable interest is already being displayed in fix the coming election which in itself assures a selection of officials to govern the city tor for the ensuing term th that t will have the confidence ot of tile the voters |
