| Show state potato growers organize A special meeting ot of commercial potato growers of tile the state was heid november 9 and 10 in connection with the state convention of 0 the farm bureau the meeting was called largely at the instigation ot of our local farm bureau president mr air 0 E brower and he received the congratulation of state farm bureau officials upon ills his activity the meeting which was held in the hotel newhouse was attended by representatives from weber san pete utah millard and iron counties also by mr air tracy welling of the utah state farm bureau mr brower acted as temporary chairman but gave way to mr air welling who was made permanent chairman of the meeting mr air A L kelly partner of john allen alien was appointed secretary kelly and allen alien are the largest commercial potato growers in millard county upon motion by mr air kelly duly seconded and carried the following resolution was adopted WHEREAS we believe that the potato growers of the state have many problems in common pertaining to production and marketing of potatoes and that joint study and discussion of these problems will result in mutual benefits and WHEREAS several of the late producing states have recently asked for a second referendum on a proposed marketing order by the secretary of agriculture tor for the handlers of irish potatoes in these late producing states and the interests i aind ind welfare of the potato growers of baab utah can call be promoted best by organized effort should such referendum bo be called and such an order issued THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that we organize a potato growers assoil association aaion tor for the state of utah as a subsidiary sub idary or auxiliary of 0 the utah state farm bureau that the chairman of this meeting be hereby authorized to appoint an organization and nominating committee whose duty shall be to formulate a cousine statement of the purposes and objectives and methods of procedure of the organization to w w propone propose a form of organization and to nominate a set of officers tor for the ensuing year and this committee shall report back to an adjourned session of this meeting to be held in this room tomorrow afternoon at tills this same hour tor for the purpose ot of effecting sach an organization and ot of electing a set ot of officers tor for the corning coming year the meeting was adjourned until th the following day after the chairman had appointed the following committee in accordance with the foregoing resolution M mr r ralph jensen of 0 box elder al mr r george asked to meet with the committee the committee met immediately organized discussed the problems and formulated the following r 1 aport 1 the time available tor study the publicity given and the representation of the potato growers ot of the state were too small at these meetings to justify an all effort at a permanent organization at this time 2 we do however recommend the formation of a temporary organization effective tor for one year until the hie next annual meeting unless the tha potato growers deem it advisable to call potato gr growers convention before that time and that the name shall be UTAH POTATO GROWERS T 3 we suggest the tentative ob of the organization shall bo be ilie diffusion of information concerning the size the extent and the condition ot of the potato industry in tho the state and old aid in the solution of problems pertaining to the production and marketing of utah potatoes 4 we recommend that the organization shall be an all auxiliary ot of the UTAH STATE FARM BUREAU federation that we seek affiliation on that basis that we request the aid of 0 the executive secretary stenographic help and permission to use the state stale farm bureau office as headquarters for or ensuing year that we further request the aid of the state department ot of agriculture and the state extension service in the accumulation of information and the formation of tho the permanent organization 5 we suggest the election here today oday ol of a board ot of directors ot of five members representing the following areas box elder and cache counties weber morgan and davis counties salt lake utah wasatch and tooele thoele counties millard bez beaver ver washington and iron counties devler san pete pluto plute and garfield counties 6 G we recommend that their terms ot of office be until the next annual meeting and that the annual meeting be held id conjunction with tile the next annual meeting of the utah state farm bureau federation in addition to the promotion of the general alms as set up in above paragraph number 3 7 we suggest that these directors be requested to per perform forra the toll foll owing specific duties in preparation for the next annual meeting A that they study the objectives and propose a form tor for a permanent organization B the such proposal shall be in the form of a constitution and set of bylaws by laws lawa or it incorporation seems advisable vi a set eel of 0 articles of incorporation and bylaws by laws C that the directors provide a constructive program tor for the next annual meeting and confer with thi the meeting of the directors after adjournment mr air A L kelly was was elected chairman of the board by unanimous approval the chairman was authorized to wire the secretary of agriculture requesting a
