Dutson FILLMORE by STELLA DAY Like all of the other thrifty women in the coun- try. have been busy preserving food by bottling, freezing, drying, from the early morning until evening. Most of us have to pick our own fruit, gather our own vegeafter planting tables. them and caring for the garden all summer. Although I enjoy gardening. it has been a very difficult summer, with the extra hot dry weather and shortage of water. Mv garden is nothing to brag about, but with so many good friends, we will have a bounteous supply of both fruit and vegetables, and from all reports, most families around this part of Utah are also well supplied. I did not raise one cucumber and yet I have 20 some odd quarts of the most delicious pickles anyone ever tasted. Lawrence and Lule Peterson gave me some of largest, most delicious tomatoes I have ever seen. Really. I just couldnt believe anyone could raise so many perfect tomatoes in such disagreeable weather. My patch has plenty of green ones, but they just dont ripen. But as long as we have such friends, we will have extra special food to preserve for winter. Another nephew, Huntsman, Dwight he shares everything grows with us and he is Our a real gardener. g(xd nephew. Boyd Day, has kept us in string beans until our matured. I planted most of my beans and later vegetables where I had peas, for our peas were ready to freeze by the first of June. Thus mv main garden is just maturing by September. It was therefore a real pleasure to leave the vegetables and fruit preservation for an afternoon and attend the delightful opening luncheon and program given by the officers of the East Millard Fine Arts Guild: Jolccn Stephenson, President: Cherryl Wood, Vice President: Madge Warner, Secretary: Gwen Monroe. The food was all prepared bv the officers, as a event to money-makinraise funds for the Club project, which is to purchase some playground equipment for th ; North Park. Those in attendance moved to the Auditorium for the program following the luncheon.
