The Air Force has stated that its expensive exhibit tour is not intended to "sell the MX to the public, but as a public service to provide us with accurate information. I have been However, this issue for on working months, and after seeing the exhibit in Salt Lake City, I feel compelled to report that much of its information is incomplete and misleading. In it, the Air Force claims that the MX is needed because the Soviet missile warheads are now plentiful and accurate enough to destroy many of our missiles. However, most of the countrys retired military professionals see this vulnerability as highly questionable and do not agree that the MX would be the best answer to this situation even if the vulnerability were real. Besides, as President Carter pointed out in his 1979 State of the Union Address, ...Just one of our relatively land-base- d invulnerable Poseidon than two per cent of our total nuclear force of submarines, aircraft, and submarines-le- ss land-base- d missiles-carr- ies enough warheads to destroy every large- - and mediumsized city in the Soviet Union. Thus the MX does not seem necessary for adequate deterrrance of a Soviet strike against our much land would it take away from other uses? How many people would move here as a result of the project? The exhibit gives misleading "response to these questions, not answers. The $33 billion cost figure it provides does not include inflation; costs for development, acquisition and maintenance for 2,000 MX warheads; and inevitable F.ven without cost the price of lost resources and wildlife, and excluding operating costs, the full figure would be well over $100 billion. The exhibit implies that people would be able to use all but 25 square miles as they have in the past. It doesnt mention that most of the 24,000 square miles involved would be severely damaged by construction and Defense Department control for existing uses and that the entire area would be under strict military surveillance by lard County New people I don't know, but enjoy Dear Progress Staff: hearing about the older I knew, back people Enclosed please find for another payment year's paper. Answer: It is a prime responsibility of the DiRevision of Wildlife sources to take necessary steps to ensure the safest possible hunting experience for everyone involved. This involves not only the hunter himself but also his hunting companions and the innocent bystander. In effect we are trying to protect the hunter and others from his own foolish actions.
