Show QUARTERLY CONFERENCE OPEN HOUSE FOR VOCATIONAL ED IN FILLMORE The quarterly conference of the Fillmore, Utah Stake was held on Saturday and Sunday. Jan. 29 and 30. 1977. The Saturday at 10 a.m. President George presided and conducted. The music was furnished by the seminary chorus conducted by Phyllis McKee. Accompanists wre Janice Nielson and Mary Lynn Rowley. The invocation was given by Bishop Newell Day. The opening song was by the 30, 1977, evening meeting started at 7:30 p.nt. The opening prayer was given by Bert Bees-toThere wree some anxious moments as Elder Wayne Bricky, who was the the the speaker, hadnt arrived at 7:30 p.m. Floyd Robison from the high council and LaGene Allred, who is in charge of the local genealogy library, spoke on the progress of construction on the library, how it would be oeprated, and what would be avail- able researchers. President George then spoke and Elder Bricky arrived at 8 p.m. The balance of the time was given to Elder Bricky. for He gave an excellent talk on our responsibility to organize our families to do missionary work, welfare, temple work, and genealogical records and He research. stressed our responsibility to do the necessary research and the temple work for our kindred dead who have been waiting for decades or even centuries fo us to do their work so they can continue to progress. Closing prayer was by Gerald Robison. Fast Sunday, Feb. 6, 1977. The theme of the conference followed the subject of Saturdays meeting. George announced he had just received a message from the First Presidency to observe a 24 hour fast and a day of prayer for next Sunday to petition the Lord for moisture for the western states and the relief of the extreme cold in the Midwest and northeastern states. President GEorge then briefly, spooke released Jean Dobson, Thora McKee and Carma Swallow from the Sake Primary Presidency with a vote of thanks. Dahlia Dotson was sustained as the new president with Linda Baugh and Carma Swallow as counselors. Janice Nielson then spoke on temple marriage and Don Beckstrand spoke on missionary work and his desire to fulfill a mission. Dahlia Dutson, the newly sustained Stake Primary President, was the next speaker. She told of the history of her family and her conversion to the LDS faith. The Department of Transportation has just informed the Fillmore City Council they are making a survey in Millard County on an airline service which would be used for businesses and commercial uses to transport residents to different parts of the state. The Board of Transportation is considering a 19 passenger plane For this service. A few of the areas which will be involved are Fillmore, Delta, Beaver, Ncphi, and Tooele. The Fillmore Chamber of Commerce is requesting the cooperations of the City Councils in our Communities to encourage businessmen and all those who are asked to fill out the questionnaire to send them immediately to the City Office Fillmore. He has been a member of the Utah State Firemans Association for 15 years in w hich he had the opportunity of as serving presidnet. With the great leadership of this man. the Fillmore Fire Department has adopted a program for the school in Fire Prevention and the Boy Scout Firemans Merit Badge. We would like to give thanks to Vernon for the things he has done for us in in our Community making it a better place to live. We would also like to thank all those like him for helping improve our area. It is good to be back again in my hometown, to see many people 1 know quite weil and to see the changes Millard County some is had. So far, 9 members of the class have joined the Utah National Guard enlisting in Btry C, 2nd COSTS DEATH Jimmy Arthur Truman, 34, was killed in a two car accident 3 miles north of Scipio at County Line Hill.
