Wo have .1.1 entries from fill more and eould easily have doubled that number if more citizens had been willing to do just a little extra work on their yards, sidewalks, and streets. We all would love to see our tow n improved but to many of us want the other fellow to do the extra work. Children should be taught from an early age just how to maintain a well gnxuned environment, not just vour own yards bub the whole area in which you dwell. The home belongs to each member of the family, the town is the joint property of every resident of that community. I his is really Our 1 ow n. We should do our part to make it a place of winch weare proud to say "I Ins is may town. Begin early to teaih children to distinguish weeds from flowers and vegetables. Children are alert and soon learn shapes, colors, textures, what should be in the garden and what should be discaided. If they are involved early in life they become nuiih more active citizens, who take a keen interest in planning the future projec ts of Our I ow n. Often times we dont even realize how shabby our places lok to visitors. Our eves have become so accustomed to the litter that we no longer see how disorderly it looks to others. Although you may never see a child in his own home, you know exactly how he has been trained at home. Watch him as he pun liases a candv bar. see him tear off the covering and throw the wrapper on the floor for some one else to put in the waste basket. Millions of dollars which we pay out each xear to pic k up trash which careless people throw around, cxnild be sax eel and spent for better schools, parks, art ccn tors, and much needed utilities, if onk each of us took can of our own litter.
