This interesting performance will be presented in the Amphitheatre in the Fillmore North Park August 7, 8, and 9, 1980 at 8:30 p.m. each evening of those dates. This pageant presents an exceptionally interesting epoch in the history of Millard County, and is presented in one of the most beautiful settings to be found anywhere in the world, with those lofty Pahvant Mountains in the background and surrounded by our beautifully landscaped North Park. Each one of us should offer our services and do whatever it is possible for us to do to help the members of this hard working committee produce this delightful pageant. Music is a universal language, a language of the emotions. Music begins where language ends, thus expressing thoughts and emotions where mere words cannot express. We can go into any country and although we cannot speak or understand one word of their language, we can thrill and feel our pulses quicken as their National Air is being played. We can appreciate the tender strains of a pleading love song, or the plaintive notes of sadness in the funeral dirges. the descriptive story told by the tonal expression is quickly interpreted by us. Very often music is likened to poetry and poets to musicians, or composers of music. Beethoven is likened to Shakespeare, Bach to Milton, Wagner, to Browning, Hayden and Mozard to Pope and Dry-deand Shubert to the lyric poets Robert Burns and Tennyson. In 1799 when Beethoven realized he was becoming deaf, he composed the Pathetique Sonata. He was and symgloomy and miserable, filled with self-pitpathy, and in this sonata, he portrays all of these emoBeethoven was temperamental and had little tions. control over his emotions, therefore all of his moods crept into his compositions. Very often we find in his compositions certain enthusiastic bursts of either temper or great joy, depending on the mood he was in at the time of composing the music. Thus we see how musicians or rather composers of music express their emotions through music instead of words as the poets do. In my opinion we can understand the music of a foreign country better than we can its literature since music involves interpreting the feelings of those composers while literature involves the language of the country. In translating the language we lose some of the real meaning of the author through the interpretation of the foreign words. It is difficult to get exactly the same meaning to a foreign word in English which the foreign author intended. We understand our foreign friends through their music better than through any other medium, except personal contact or visits to that country. These visits are expensive and are not possible for many of us, therefore we need to listen to the music of other countries more than we do, if we are to have a better relationship with them. y Jean Smith Reporter Photographer Compositor - Firemens Auxiliary to Have Party The Linda Wood Compositor - Lithographer Subscription in Advance: Year $7. 50 Months:$4.50 Single Copy: 20 cents 6 Volun- Fill more teer Firemen's Auxiliary is having their annual summer part this Thurs- June day, Advertising Rates on Request Second Class Postage paid at Fillmore, Utah 84631 POSTMASTER: Send Address Changes to P.O.
