Show f Millard County Progress. Fillmore, Utah 84631 Friday. Auaust 25. 1978 PAGE TWO 0ur MILLARD COUNTY PROGRESS Published Every Friday at Fillmore, Utah 84631 By Progress Printing Company Town Publisher Susan B. Dntson Jane Wilson F,llM0RE STELLA 111 Reporter By the time this is published, the State judges will have been here in person Wednesday , Aug. 2.1, 1978, interviewing the City Officials and all of the people who helped to complete the projects described in the scrapbook. Although I spent many hours on the scrapbook for Fillmore City, trying to prose to the judges what, we as a community have accomplished, we still have to be judged personally. I have shown in pictures and written descriptions, the many projects which have been completed by the eittens and the officials of Fillmore, Last week spent some time taking the judges for the Tribune Beautification Contest to each home and entry. These judges, however, were just interested in the cleanliness and beautification in OUR TOWN. Each entry was judged by itself, whether tt was a home, a public building, a neighborhood, or whatever was the entry, such as how ntanv trees and shrubs were planted by different organizations, how clean does the city or the citizens keep the streets and sidewalks, how much pride do the citizens take in keeping well groomed and beautifully landscaped grounds and surroundings. The Tribune judges were also interested in our public Parks, This new group of state judges were interested in every phase of our living. Every thing we do, whether it is good or bad is of interest to this set of judges In the first place, tins contest calls for a planned future. We have to state our goals which we have for future devolopmcnt and hte time we think it will take us to complete each goal; or, .in other words, what has been accomplished toward reaching our goals. What sort of community will Fillmore be in ten or twenty years from now? Do we know where we are going and how to get there? They ask hundreds of questions, and we are supposed to have all of the ansyvers. Do we have suitable housing for the new families which are moving into our town? Do we have adequate public health services, doctors, nurses, dentists, hospitals which are up to date? Are our schools up to date, with good school houses, well prepared teachers, modern libraries, with facilities for students to study? Is there plenty of room for new students, so that the teachers are not teaching too ntanv students? Do we have up to date shops, general merchandise stores, and markets where people can purchase the merchandise they need for quality living? Are there craftsmans services as such electricians, plumbers, carpenters, mechanics? Do we have good banking facilities? How well are we protected by our law enforcement officers? How etficent is our fire department? Do we have a modern airport where planes can land when needed? Do we have Veterinary Service? How efficient is our postal service? Do we have adequate garbage collections and disposals? Is our sewer system adequate for more population? Are our streets well lighted? Are our roads and sidewalks in good condition? Do we have parking facilities? Is the water supply adequate? What is the quality of our culinary-waterAre there recreational facilities for all ages? What kind of zoning laws do we have? What is required in our building code? What about the Cultural Development of our community as a whole? Are we able to attend elevating and uplifting dramas and musicals? Is theie an art center? Is there enough industry to furnish jobs for our young people as well as the older ones? Do we have a planned senior citizens program? Tins is just a sample of the many questions we were expected to answer and have proof that these projects and facilities are adequate. Each head of the organizations, clubs or groups was invited to help prove our efficiency in achieving our goals. I am highly in favor of these contests as it stimulates us to do our very best! 1 &l Editor Marge Barton Compositor Photographer Ruth Znntravich Display Ads Vuritvpist Forrest Barton Lithographer Compositor Suhsi nption in Advance: 1 ear $6.00 6 Months $1 50 Single ( opy 154 Keniiv Advertising Rates on Request .Second Class Postage paid at children two rillmore.
