Show JOSEPH STONE PIONEER DIES AT SCIPIO HOME the death occurred on saturday morning ot of joseph stone a well known pioneer and indian war veteran in his eighty third year ile he was born in burbage bishire county england on april 1850 at an early age lie joined the L D S church and came to america with his parents brothers and sisters in 1858 crossing the plains with ox teams in october 1861 ile ho made several trips to missouri for immigrants ile he came to scipio in 1869 IS 69 and has lived hero here ever since lie he served in the black hawk indian war and was sent to holden and fillmore tor for recruits it the time of 0 tile the raids on round valley ile he was one ot of the most daring ot of the pony express riders ile he was a partner in the ownership of 0 the first horse driven threshers thre and tor for many years worked e d every fall at threshing other times besides handling a bunch of 0 cattle and working on his farm he worked early and late as a blacksmith ills his health was good and his energy and ambition were boundless ile he married miss adalane robins ot of scipio and they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary over a year ago besides his bir widow lie he Is survived by two sons william and vernon of 0 scipio and five daughters mrs jane mrs airs pearl mrs airs rilla coleman mrs airs reuben of scipio and mrs airs ber noice melville of fillmore there are 27 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren the funeral services were held in the ward meeting house at one 0 clock monday with bishop J wells robins presiding the invocation was pronounced by jesse B martin con leonard E and roy robins sang the old rugged cross then bert L robins and C A spoke words of consolation and encouragement coura uLa gement to argila ar gily heel that after a wholesome and worthwhile career the kind father father Is entitled to a well earned rest burke mathews sang we shall meet but we shall miss him arthur brown was the next speaker then the choir sang sweet dye bye and dye bye and the benediction was pronounced by lars jenson the services were largely attended and the floral tributes were beautiful interment was in the city cemetery mr air and mrs levi mccullough of delta came to attend the funeral also mr air and mrs fenton Afern mott ot of nepal and mr jonathan leamaster of juab dian dean peterson and family of delta spent sunday with mrs christine peterson lorraine Lorr alne Al emmott son ot of mr and mrs john F underwent an operation tor for appendicitis in salt lake city last saturday mrs fred richards of heber cit city y spent last week with her parents mr and Ms als druce bruce mathews her mother mether returned to heber city with he to visit to fo a while Hol boldens holdens dens young mens alens seminary class gave the sermon and lessons at the ward meeting on sunday afternoon ter noon miss klea brown who has been attending high school in heber city has returned home and we understand she wili enter the M H S soon the local post of the american legion will put on an entertainment here on wednesday afternoon in honor of birthday it is expected that ex governor charles R mabey will be one of the speakers the afternoon meeting will be followed by an all night dance veterans from the neighboring posts have been invited to attend we have had very cold weather all during february A week ago the thermometer registered 38 below zero one night |
