Duane Fillmore. Milly Williams and Amanda Brcndcl, two ninth grade students, accompanied by Amanda's guardian, Peggy Dimick, approached the Board and asked for time to express some of their concerns. Supt. Opcnshaw and Board members acknowledged their presence and granted their request. The two girls staled that Coach Fillmore demands respect from students, but docs not show any respect for the students. They added that he. in their opinion, exhibits a negative attitude to some students by belittling them, losing his temper and using inappropriate words, which some students interpret as swearing. Peggy Dimick also expressed concerns about the way Fillmore had pushed her child (Amanda Brcndcl), to exceed her physical limitation, requiring her to keep running when she had told him that she was unable to run any further. She further expressed concerns about negative statements that Fillmore had made to some students. they would definitely look into the accusations towards Fillmore and if needed, appropriate and immediate action would be taken in handling the matter. Mrs. Dimick and the two students were then invited, along with the Board members, to view a film entitled "Goals 2000", relating to Education in America and encouraging parents to take a more active role in their childs education. The film encourages parents to form a partnership with schools in improving their child's education. The superintendent reported that Central Utah Mental Health had presented three options for mental health services for K-- 3 programs provided to Juab and Tintic. Discussion concluded with Juab and Tintic preferring Option I and identifying the necessary funding of $5,800 to cover the costs of Option I. In order to include At Risk services at the West Desert, Tintic school would need an additional $2000 funding. All members voted in favor of accepting the Option I proposal. It was reported that Tintic and West Desert Schools will receive will be in January. The effective date of S.B. 182' "Public Employee Retirement Purchase Option", is one year away, July 1, 1995. Opcnshaw told the Board that most superintendents feel this program is too expensive to adopt. Tintic School District will decide whether it elects to participate in this system, by enacting a resolution or ordinance to that effect. In his report, Supt. Opcnshaw. . . Reported a positive reaction most by parents on the Conduct Code which was given to students and parents. There had been some concerns by a few parents, but those concerns have been worked through. The Board voted in favor of accepting the Conduct Code and implement it into the schools. An increase in enrollment was reported.
