View View Mountain Hospital under the Radiology Department, auspices of the Women's Center has recently installed an advanced mammography system that improves high image quality for all tissue types. The new unit, a Senographe DMR mammography system from GE Medical Systems, features a new advanced tube design that enables it to image. Each breast is routinely examined from two angles, reviewed and then additional views may be obtained. Mountain View Hospital has also purchased a stereotactic localization device for use with the mammography system. This allows selected patients to undergo a simple, quick and accurate sampling of ceils from a possible cancerous breast lesion using simple needle insertion rather than open surgical biopsy. Occasionally a suspicious lesion can be clearly seen on only one view of the mammogram making surgical localization extremely difficult. The steriotactic biopsy addition to the mammography unit at Mountain View Hospital can greatly facilitate accurate biopsy and diagnosis of these resulting images of produce all types of patients, including difficult-to-imag- e patients with dense glandular breast tissue.
