Father Daz accompanied them to the city and supervised the days activities. It is interesting to look back 26 years and note how much different things were then as compared to today. Here are a few of the happenings that were reported in the Eureka Reporter... The B.P.O.E. No. 711 held a very successful New Years party Ann Quigley evening included a dinner followed by special en tertainment. Ronald Griggs had formed a mens chorus of 20 men. The chorus proved to be a very big hit and they performed at Lucas, Lela Delvore Racker Lunt, Harry J. Pitts, and George with 150 people attending, .many from the Provo Lodge. The many functions. Jerry Sanderson was the accompanist. Dancing was enjoyed until the wee hours and at midnight there was a shower of balloons and serpentine. Hats and noisemakers were provided. A delicious buffet luncheon was served at 2 a.m. There was much conjecture as to the cause of a resounding blast that shook many of the homes on the north side of town on a Saturday afternoon in Jan. 1962. The mystery was cleared up when it was discovered that a chimney had blown up at the Richard Ainge home. No injuries or fire result. Just some frayed nerves of the occupants of the home. William (Bill) Eastwood was installed as Fire Chief of the Eureka Volunteer Fire Dept. Others installed to serve with him for two years were Leland Sanderson, Assistant Chief; Tom Eastwood, secretary; Floyd Evans, truck captain; and Lynn Brady, trustee. Lynn was the outgoing Chief. Mrs. Bonnie Ryan Newman was a member of the cast of Kern Opera Companys presentation of La Traviate performed at Harvey Auditorium in Bakersfield, California. Mrs. Newman is an accomplished singer. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ryan of Eureka. (Today Mrs. Newman is the Principal of Hillsdale Elementary School in Salt Lake City, where Mrs. Christine Bernini is a fourth grade teacher.) CYO members of St. Patricks Church were in Salt Lake where they attended the ordination of Futhr Davicii ami Father Fitzgerald. After the ordination ceremonies, they made a trip to the DUP Museum, visited the Temple grounds; and took in the movie, El Cid. Making the trip were Martin Fennell, David Bernini; Stephen Evans, Fred Spencer, Frankie Bridgeman, 1962 saw the passing of many friends: Louise Gertrude Bauer Wilde, Calvin Elton, Axel E.
