Show January 1, 1960 Eureka Couple Make Plans for Elks Sp onsor So cia Corner Annual Party An outstanding event of the Yuletide season was the New Years Eve dinner dancing party at the Elks club rooms, Spring Marriage for members and their part- ners. A banquet was served at 7 p.m., and a short, but highly interesting program, announced by Program Chairman, Hamilton Laird, consisted of two numbers by a boys double quartet from high school, conducted by Ronald Griggs, and two piano numbers by Jerry Sanderson. Dancing followed the dinner, and at midnight, hats and noise makers of all kinds were passed among the dancers, and the New Year was ushered in, in roaring good style. Music for the dancing was furnished by the Bud Huff orchestra of Spanish Fork. After the New Year had been ushered in, a buffet supper was enjoyed and dancing continued for a few hours. Announcement is being made this week by Mr. and Mrs. James Maxwell of the engagement of a daughter, Mary Ellen, to Richard Bate, son of Mr .and Mrs. Wm. Bate of Provo. The young people are graduates of Tintic High School and Miss Maxwell has been attending Henagers Business College in Salt Lake for the past few months. Prospective groom is employed at Dugway Proving Grounds. A date for the marriage has not been set, but a spring wedding is being Alan Milne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Milne, who are residing at Tucson for the present, is spending the holidays here with his grandmother, . For where he is employed. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Erickson and son Bob, of Mammoth, spent the Christmas weekend holiday in Las Vegas, with their son, Richard, who is stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. The weather wasn't too good in the Nevada City, as rain and high wins played havoc with the street and home decorations and hampered them from getting about as they wanted to do, but nevertheless they enjoyed the visit with Bob. Mr. and Mrs. Don Julander and small son, Jeffrey, of Provo are spending the holidays here with her parents, Bishop and Mrs. Lee Bird. Other guests at the Bird home on Tuesday and Wednesday were Mrs Birds brother and sister-in-laMr. and Mrs. Merrill Crane and their five children of Salt Lake. w, Holiday guests at the home of Mayor and Mrs. Charles Ferris were a daughter and Mr. and Mrs. George Byrnes and their small son of Salt Lake and Mrs. Phil Sullivan of Payson. Mrs. Sullivan was a house guest of Mrs. Virginia Cartwright. The visitors returned to their homes on Sunday. w, Michael Ellington, who is at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado, was a dinner guest on Monday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Potts. His home is in Pleasant Grove and he was home on furlough for the holidays. When he returned to Pleasant Grove he was accompanied by Miss Sheila Potts who will spend a few days there with an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Shoells. six-year-o- four-year-o- ld ld From California comes word of the birth of a baby boy to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jaeger of Fresno. The baby will be named Brian Dean. This is the third son for the couple. Mrs. Jaeger will be remembered as the former Betty Ann Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Baker, former residents of Eureka, now residing in Pasadena. s YJswi holi- day parties . given prior to Christmas was the one given by the M. Later in the evening they went on a caroling tour, serenading their grandparents and a few shut-in- s, and at the end of the caroling session, they went to the Ben Allinson home for hot Paul Cushing, son of Mr. and Mrs. Heber Cushing, left Saturday for San Manuel, Arizona Friday. Shut-in- One of the enjoyable Milnes. Don Hopes and Fred Laird arrived in Eureka last Wednesday evening from Tucson, Arizona, where they are employed by the Centennial Development Co. Mr. Hopes is spending the holidays with his family, and Mr. Laird is visiting his mother, Mrs. Nellie Laird and other relatives. They plan to return to Arizona on A special Christmas "package" In the form of a baby daughter arrived on Christmas Day at Dugway Hospital for Mr. and Airs. Jack Wilde. It was a happy day for the par ents and their two other daughters, Kathy and Jackie, who are really excited about their very welcome Christmas gift Mother is the former Edna Webb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Webb of Eureka, and paternal grandparents are Air. and Mrs. Clarence Wilde, also of Eureka, who are all very happy over the new arrival. Rex Lee and Mr. and Mrs. Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Griggs were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bauer and son David of Salt Lake City and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bauer and baby of Layton. Mr. and Airs. Carl Sandstrom spent the Christmas holiday weekend in Provo where they were guests of their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sandstrom. Hillsdale left week the for St. Louis, during Mo., to spend New Years with her son, Father Paul Hillsdale. Airs. Aiaude Lt. and Airs. Ray Colovich and two children who have been residing in Alabama were here Christmas Eve and were guests at the home of Mr. and Airs. Ted Colovich. They spent Christmas Day in Salt Lake City with his mother, Mrs. S. D. Colovich and other relatives. Ray left Salt Lake Wednesday for Florida where he will be assigned to another base. His wife and children will remain in Provo with her mother until Ray receives further orders. Air. and Airs. Phil Thompson and small son of Blue Water, New Mexico, returned to their home Alonday. They spent the past week hero with his parents, Mr. and Airs. Lorin D. Thompson. Other members of the family here for Christmas dinner were Air. and Airs. Jay Thompson and family, Richfield. Larry Regis made a trip to Salt Lake City Monday evening where they enjoyed dinner at Andys Smorgasbord. After the dinner they saw the movie "The Big Fisherman," at one of the city theatres. It was a most enjoyable evening for all. Air. and Airs. Jim Brady and son Ray of Santaquin and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rostrom of Mammoth drove to Murray last Sunday and spent the day with Air. and Mrs. V. G. Pett and family and Airs. Alatilda Brady. Enroute home they stopped in Lehi for a visit with Air. and Airs. Ted Brady and Mrs. Het-ti- e Laird. Air. and Airs. Jim Jensen of Salt Lake City spent the weekend here with her parents, Mr. and Airs. Wm. Roberts. Airs. Helen Jackson is spending the holidays in Logan with her daughter and family, the Richard Wheelock family. Air. and Airs. Glen Erickson of Elberta were in town on Christmas Day visiting with the Gilbert Snell and Charles Ferris families. Entertains Club One of the pleasant club parties was the one given at the home of Mrs. Roy Gourley when the Bridge Club met for their annual pre-Christm- as Christmas party. Dinner was served at tables decorated in keeping with the holiday season. An attractive centerpiece was a small blue tree decorated with miniature balls and favors were red nut cups tied with a gold bow which held small candy canes and place cards. Members exchanged gifts. Following dinner cards were enjoyed and prizes were won by Mrs. Alliene Farren, Mrs. Harry Dean, Airs. Don Giles and Mrs. Anna Franks. Others attending were Mrs. Dee Clement, Airs. Ted Johnson and Mrs. Floyd Nash. Air. and Airs. Wilson Lee and family members, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Lee and family, Mr. and Mrs. Max Lee and baby, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Lee and boys, and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Regis were in Salem Christmas afternoon where they were guests at a family dinner at the home of Mrs. Lees sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Nelson. Alisa AUldred Davis is spend- ing the holidays in Provo with her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Denton Finch. m Jack Andrew drove to Twin chocolate. Miss Sharon Leah Dyson, lovely daughter of Mrs. Sarah Dyson of Dodge City, Kansas, whose engagement to Robert Timothy Watt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Watt of Eureka is announced this week. John Matthews returned to his home in Reno, Nevada after an extended visit in Eureka with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Matthews.
