Show v UTHr rv SUITSW-- T - - , M .7 C1T L"K' ,J1 (id F U7 341" Celebrating more than 98years ofservice to the citizens ofEureka, Volume Ninety-Eig- EUREKA, UTAH - April 18, 2003 ht Number 16 Price $.40 W students attend drama festival A relatively large number of brave Tintic High School students made the long journey Calvin Blohm presented fourth grade teacher, Amy Sorensen, with the Good Neighbors for Good Schools Award last Friday. jazz band gets high marks THS The Tintic High School Jazz Band 1 received a Superior Rating (I) at the Region 18 Jazz Festival in March which qualified them for participation in the Utah State Jazz Festival on Friday, April 4th. The Tintic High School Jazz Band II, The Funkadclic Project, received an Excellent Rating (II) which was great also, but didnt quality them for the sate festival. The band traveled to Park City for the festival and played third after Park City and Altamont. Our band received and Excellent Rating (II), the highest rating of all IA bands and comparable tot he 2A and 3 A scores. Jennica Grimstcad received an Outstanding Soloist Certificate. to Region Drama on Tuesday, April 8th. Ten students made the trip with their coach, Mike McDonald to Castle Dale. All of the students reported Fourth grade teacher gets award On April 1 1 , 2003, Calvin Blohm awarded the State Farm Good Neighbors for Good Schools Award to Mrs. Amy Sorensen, 4th garde teacher, at Eureka Elementary. TheUEA Children at Risk Foundation, State Farm Insurance, and the Utah Jazz work together on this award. He also presented her with a $100 check to be used for books in her classroom. He told the students that Mrs. Sorensen went the extra mile to get this award. Mrs. Sorenson was excited to get this award and will use it for her students. Congratulations to Mrs. Sorensen and the 4th grade wisely class! that they learned much from the trip as they were able to see students from larger schools with more experience strut their stuff on the huge stage at Emery High School. Students form Tintic were able to interact and compete with students from schools such as Meridian, East Carbon, Green River, and Duchesne. One of the organizers of the event from East Carbon expressed appreciation at the presence of Tintic remarking that even though many 1A schools find it difficult if not impossible to participate at events such as these, it was nice to see Tintic there giving students a vital opportunity to hone artistic skills and build their confidence though self-expressi- The good news came later evening when the judges decided that one of Tintic students was performance good enough to top all other contestants in the Region 18 in the Humorous Interpretation category ,and she, Mcrriannc Ncdrcbcrg, was awarded the medal for 1" place and qualified to attend the State Drama Competition. More good news came later when it was announced that three other Tintic students qualified with high marks to also attend state drama and certificates received of achievement. The were Sarah Christensen, Bonnie Turner, and Mandy Cox. Mr. McDonald also to thank the other wanted students who came and offered their support and talents. They were Sativa Wright, Lea Pierce, Tiffany Hunt, Kristi Emily Carter, Jcnnica Grimstead, and drama chaperone, Mrs. Turner. Mr. McDonald also wishes to thank the community members of Eureka and the surrounding areas who have helped build their students Wayman, confidence in themselves by attending dramatic performances at Tintic High School. Mr. McDonald said, The parents in this community arc amazing in their support to the students in drama for the past seven years. I have observed students confidence rise incredibly when they get the courage to go out on that stage and do something many of us find terrifying. The success they experience benefits and honors us all. I couldnt be more proud of them. were Kayla Jones, Tia Sharp, Shanna Participants Charity Hampton has been chosen for the Principal's Corner this week for bing an Outstanding Student. She works very hard and has a strong desire to learn. She hands her assignments in on time and they are neatly done. She is always enthusiastic and has a positive attitude toward everything that they do in class. She has made great achievements in reading and math this year. Congratulations Charity on always doing your best with a great attitude. Her teacher is Mrs. Stout. Her father is Greg Hampton. Schow, and Candice Grimstcad on Alto Saxophone; Jcnnica Grimstcad and Mandy Cox on Tenor Saxophone; Jacob Horlachcr on Bari Saxophone, Mcrri Ncdrcbcrg, TJ Hannifin, and Sheldon Morgan on Trumpet; Emily Carter on Trombone; Ciysta Underwood and Shala Davis on Piano; Zac Horlachcr on Bass Guitar; Tyler Wilde on Guitar; and JD Long on Drums. We had a great time at the festival and look forward to next year. Absence is one of the most useful ingredients of family life, and to dose it rightly is an art like any other.
