Volume Ninety-Si- x j I Number 17 EPA to start ciean-u-p Three years ago. the Character Education program, here in mid-Ju- the Community of Caring program was put into place at the West Desert schools. The students of West Desert decided to "adopt' a cause. Although overwhelmed with the number of causes there are to adopt, they chose the Battered Women's Shelter in Salt Lake City. They e taken Christmas gifts to them, had small food drives, and volunteered their time and cleaning clearing out old there. This year buildings however, they've really worked hard for this wonderful group. In a community' of just a few', they managed a food drive that brought in over 250 pounds of food for the shelter. When they took it in. they were told Thai the day prior to their arrival, the cooks had been lamenting the decreasing food supply and told others that a food drive was needed. They were thrilled w hen West Desert arrived. The West Desert is sure grow ing and flourishing with the finest citizens around! This note says it all. Living in out a isolated spot such as they do. there are some things the citizens of West Desert have to do without. Good citizens isnt one of them! Community Involvement soon and then they will very begin. This funding is called Emergency Response Funding will allow enough money for dle EPA to clean the most It contaminated areas which will include cleaning up the residential areas before mining areas. The second kind of funding will be the Superfund It will allow the EPA to clean up the rest of the contaminated areas. It has not been disclosed which areas will be included in the emergency action and which areas will be included in the superfunding mid-Jun- Sam Newborn kits show up II d Bass from Kearns brought his model of the Beck Ml that he set up for the Tintic Mining Museum exhibit at the Capitol on Museum day. The people at the Saturday night dinner enjoy ed it very' much. Thirteen of the twenty-tw- o guests at the potluck were from places other than Tintic. but all had an interest in our history and arc very much involved. We appreciate their support. Another new attraction w'as a drawing for door prizes. There were items from the gift shop, and certificates good for trade in differing amounts. Others items were donated by Debi. Even though the weather was nasty, the dinner was delicious! Each year is different. The next scheduled meeting of the Society children at the shelter for Valentine's Day until we showed up with all of this. Along with the boxes, they brought everything - Folk-Foo- surprises.
