Volume EUREKA, UTAH - April 7, 2000 Niiety-Fiv-e Tintic students get to state drama meet Tintic High School Drama students: Bryan Grady, Heidi Nedreberg, Jessie Ezell, Sarah Williams, Dustin Grady. Danny Young, Merri Nedreberg, Kami Atwood, Aleasha Larsen, and Daniel Gomez, recently returned from the 1 A Region Drama competition held at Emery High School in Castledale, Utah. The students were accompanied by their drama coach. Mr. McDonald, and a superv isor. Jeri Ezell. The students represented Tintic High School well, as they competed in Scenes; Humorous Interpretation; and Dramatic Interpretation. As a group. Tintic students placed 3rd. All Tintic students received at least one superior rating in the competition rounds where they are evaluated in three separate performances, in front of three alternating judges. A special congratulations I goes out to five students who managed to qualify for the 1A State Drama competition to be held at Juab High School, Saturday, April 15th: The students who qualified still major problem, appointments made City clean-u- p At the City Council meeting held in March, Council Member Mary Lou Draper brought up concerns of the old unused homes around town. Fifty-On- e houses in Eureka that are not being lived in have sewer and water connections. David Church, who is the Lawyer for the Utah League of Cities and Towns, will soon be sending a letter out to the owners of these homes, in which will state, "We are maintaining your right to a water hookup. We will be charging you a monthly fee of $5.00. If you do not pay the maintenance tee, your water connection will be relinquished." This terpretation, "Slow Dance on the Killing Ground" Dustin Grady Humorous Interpretation, "Chocolate Cake" Sarah Williams, Merrie Nedreberg, and Jessie Ezell Scene, "Romeo and Juliet" Mr. McDonald said he appreciated the students' courage and hard work they all showed in making tliis long journey: "Our students held their own uder difficult circumstances and have learned a lot from their makes it possible for the city to take the water hookup from the house, whereas the owner may relinquish it by paying a new water connection fee. Council Member Draper also stated that these homes need to be fixed up or tom down. It is the City's legal right to send the building inspector around and send letters to owners giving them 30 days notice to begin fixing up the house, and if there is no response, the City has a right to tear it down and attach all costs to property tax. The matters will all go before a judge and done legally. An impact fee was also discussed. Mr. Church said diat it would be better to put an impact fee rather titan raise die cost of die connection tees for sewer and water. Currently Eureka does not have one, and die matter will be discussed further. A motion was made and passed to charge all unused sewer and water connections a maintenance fee. If property owners do not pay within 90 days all rights to that connection will be relinquished. Four applications came in tor the positions offered in the plan- - Number 14 Price $.40 ning commission. Applicants in- eluded Theodore Haynes, Cleo Judge. Larry Bell and Patti Grendell. The names were placed on a paper ballot and voted on by the Eureka City Giuncil. The ballots were read by the City Recorder. Out of the four applicants, Ted Haynes and Cleo Judge were named as the new planning commission members by a unanimous vote. Larry Bell was named as an alternate. A motion was then made and passed by Council members to make it official. Church news Catholic "Whoever lives the Truth conies to the Light" w'as the theme of the Sunday Mass at St. Patrick's Church. Father Walter was celebrant and led the congregation in reading the Opening Antiphon. Scripture readings were taken from the second Book of Chronicles; the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians; and the holy Gospel according to John. In the gospel reading we learn die presence of the Son of God is the definitive judgment on the world. Only those who act in the truth can bear its light. They will obtain salvation. In his homily. Father gave a wider explanation of the meaning contained in the scriptures. Mass celebrating the Fifth Sunday of Lent (April 9) will begin at the regular time... 4:00 p.m. Methodist On Sunday. April 2, the Fourth Sunday of Lent, the congregation of the Eureka United Methodist Church gathered together. Present to offer services were Organist Mabel Butler and Pastor Andy Kwon. Opening hymn was "Let There Be Peace On Earth," followed by special music given by Mabel Butler and the children's message. "The Egg: a symbol of new beginning." by Sandy Evans. Mark 7; 14-2and 1 Peter 4:8-- 0 were the scripture lessons. "The Cold Within," was the sermon given by Pastor Andy Kwon. Closing hymn was "Pass It On, and the postlude was given by Mabel Butler. 3, 1 Fishing! Strawberry Reservoir Warm -- days and nights have caused the snow pack to settle, but there is still I 3 feet of snow on the fiat and much more in drifted areas. There are small open water areas at the mouth of the Steps and oilier streams, but the reservoir is still largely covered with ice. 0 Ice thickness remains at inches, but the slush layer has reformed and snowmobiles should not be taken across the reservoir. Fishing remains good forcutthoat and rainbow trout in 0 feet of water. Anglers are having success with they typical cliartreu.se and white swirl-ta- il jigs, tube jigs, -- 15-2- 15-2- or Gitzits tipped with meal wormsearthworms and fished 1- -2 feet off tlie bottom. Anglers are catching fish all day long but the best success is reported away from die crowded areas. Vehicle access is limited to die Strawberry Marina. Chicken Creek West, Jakes Bay, and die various snowmobile parking areas which require a daily parking fee of $4. DO NOT PARK ALONG HIGHWAY 40 OR THE STRAWBERRY MARINA ROAD. Deer Creek Reservoir - Fair Fishing for trout with best success by trolling pop gear and worm in die early light hours of the day and also evening hours. Perch fishing has been fair jigging from boats -- - move around until you find a school of perch. Boat launching is available. Remember you may now keep 10 perch. Hobble Creek & Diamond Fork Rivers - Fair Fishing on both rivers. The catch basin on Hobble Creek was stocked a couple of weeks ago. Crib corner Brandon and Traci Snell are die proud parents of a new little baby Boy. Logan Edward Snell was bom March 22. 2000 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Logan weighed in at 8Ibs. I loz. and was 20 12 inches long. Proud grandparents are Ray and Eileen Schow and Peggy Snell and the late Edward Snell of Eureka. Great-grandmodie- rs are Leona Franks, Maxine Schow, and Bonnie Laird of Eurek, and a Annie Franks.
