Show Page Four - The Eureka Reporter - March 11, 1994 Arthritis group T4UC tapsEurekan to chair drive Dorean Ames of Eureka has been appointed chairperson of the Campaign to benefit the Arthritis Foundation, Utah Chapter. As chairperson, Ms. Ames is responsible for gathering a volunteer team to distribute information about arthritis, and collecting contributions from residents in 1994 A little over a month ago, the McNultys noticed the dates. Mar. 4,5,6, blocked out on their calendar with a note.. "your re busy this weekend.. family thing". No clues were given until Sunday, Feb. 27, when they were told to pack a bag for the weekend. On Thursday evening, March 3, the plans were finally shared with June and Colccn, with the arrival of sons, Kerry from Idaho; Blake from California; and Jim from Salt Lake City. It seems Kerry, Jim and Lar-c- cl had been planning things since last year, as a surprise for Blake who celebrated his 30th birthday on the 3rd of March, and most certainly a surprise for "Mom" and "Dad". Friday morning, the whole group left for a wonderful week end in the St. George area. While the boys spent time golfing on Saturday, June and Coleen visited Silver Reef. A stop was made in Leeds at the Franks home for a pleasant visit with Don and Alice. In the afternoon, a driving tour of beautiful Snows Canyon was enjoyed, and a trip to Mesquite for supper. On Sunday, the party spent time hiking in Zion National Park; then headed homeward. It's a spectacular part of the State in the spring, making it a trip that will not be soon forgotten. Blake and Kerry both flew out on Monday to return to their homes. What a nice "surprise" this weekend turned out to be for the McNulty family. Interagency council helps school systems An interagency council, shared by both school districts located in the boundaries of Juab County, is making a difference in the lives of children according to members of the interagency team. Juab and Tintic School Districts won a grant which is allowing both districts to work with students in the two school districts. Susan Cowan, director of the program, said the team is working to "some wonderful accomplish things." The Utah Legislature designed a bill which promotes early intervention for students and which sets up an interagency council. Both Juab And Tintic share the same council with Juab having the assistance of specialized workers on three days of the week and Tintic having them on two days. However, said Cowan, if the need arises in one district, the schedule can be quickly adapted to meet the need. Members of the council travel back and forth to meet the needs of a family or student in crisis. "This is a whole new step in collaboration." said Cowan. The funds raised during the campaign will be used to serve the 240,000 Utahns with arthritis. "We hope this program and the volunteers will spread accurate information about arthritis throughout the state," said Wendy Zundel, Director of Development for the Utah Chapter. "The campaign allows people to make a gift when a volunteer contacts them."
