JVM writes Reincarnation My beloved spouse received Shirley MacLaines book "Its All in the Playing," for her recent birthday. I scanned the book. I was underwhelmed by the wisdom of that Hollywood lady. Gosh! I thought. If this broad had only been around two thousand years ago, she could have explained the real meaning of the cosmos to the Nazareth Man. Reincarnation: thats it. That concept was explained to us at Tintic High School by Mr. Burton Thane Collins, in 1938. He was explaining in Science class about in indestructibility of matter. His concept lead with complete logic into Ms. MacLaines explanation of reincarnation. It all begins, Mr. Colins explained, with a blade of grass. Or as Walt Whitman so profoundly put it; Leaves of Grass. A horse grazes in the pasture. Nature takes it course and ultimately, some of it is deposited on to the ground. That eventually becomes fertilizer and at some point becomes food. Our teacher did offer one word of caution. (Remember, that was in an era of horse and buggies). He advised, "Never kick a horse biscuit; it might be your uncle. " Or Shirley MacLaines Grandmother. John V. McCormick City tells agenda Saturday morning on the steps of Eureka City Hall. Mrs. Virginia Badertscher presented the deed to a 28 x90 foot piece of her property to Eureka City, upon which (if funding can be obtained), will be built the proposed Eureka Centennial Park. Accepting the deed on behalf of Eureka City, were Mayor Don Treloar and Councilman June McNulty, who expressed their appreciation to Mrs. Badertscher on behalf of Eureka City officials and residents. Mrs. Sherry Nedreberg, chairwoman of the Eureka Centennial Celebration Committee (ECCC), presented a beautiful plaque to Virginia, inscribed as follows: "The Eureka Centennial committee presents this award to Virginia Badertscher in appreciation of her outstanding generosity to the City of Eureka, Feb. 29, 1992." immediately following the ceremony, Mrs. Badertscher was further honored at an open house at the Memorial Building, sponsored by the ECCC. She was presented with a lovely arrangement of flowers, after which, refreshments sere served by members of the committee. A scale model of the proposed park was on display for all of the guests to view. The model is the work of Wayne Ford and P.J. Dimick. Proper credit was not given to Patricia Elton Runnells, whose article depicting her family's experiences with hobos in Dividend, appeared in last weeks edition of the Eureka Reporter. Pat is a former resident of Dividend and now resides in Kailua, Hawaii. We, at the Eureka Reporter, appreciate her interest in our area, and hope she will continue to send items that are of interest to residents and former residents, to the paper.
