Show 7 1 i S1 STAhLE AhLE F N F By LARRY STAHLE STABLE My teenage daughter Is at that awkward age one mother said to another She he knows how to make phone calls but not how to end them There Isn't any news ot holiday holi- holi day visitors or My customary customary custo custo- customary mary shopping habits will be disrupted this week may be two comments that will be heard as our readers scan through the pages of ot this weeks week's ManU Manta Messenger and Ephraim En En- En The truth of ot the matter is that we dont don't have any news ate Ite Items ms of ot holiday visitors and not too many of ot our grocers and advertisers ad advertisers ad- ad running ads But we wedo wedo wedo do have some The reason for tor this lack of ot personal news items and the reason for tor our grocers not having ads Is purely our fault tault During the past ten years that we have made our home in Sanpete we have been unable to really get away from it all alland alland alland and relax very often otten Occasionally Occasionally Occasionally Occasion Occasion- ally we have taken a couple of days and headed for tor Yellowstone Yellowstone Yellowstone Yellow Yellow- stone Zions Bryce or other national parks That helps a abit abit abit bit but doesn't lend enough time to completely unwind Between Christmas and New Years last year we out outa a few tew days and headed for southern California where we had a dandy time at Disneyland Disneyland Disneyland Disney Disney- land Marineland and the Rose Parade We felt a great deal better after this time on the coast But this year we are going to flap our wings and take off offa a little more time Ume and this made it so that we had to print the paper a few days early before the grocers were able to find out their specials or the correspondents track down your news Items The grocers who are not running ads in the paper this week will be back in full tull splendor splendor splendor dor next week Many of ot them are going are going to feature some specials specials specials around their stores this weekend Our correspondents are now taking your news items for tor the coming week Please give them thema a call early so that we can be sure to include your items In Inthe Inthe inthe the paper Testing a Sunday School class the teacher asked What are the sins of ot omission omission omission omis omis- sion my child One of ot our alert young Sanpete South Stake youths answered the sins we ought to commit and dont Now that 1971 Is officially here we can start looking ahead to what will take place during the year One of ot the biggest events willbe will willbe willbe be the fifth presentation of ot the Mormon Miracle July 12 to Mrs Macksene Rux director of ot the pageant has some superb plans for tor this years year's presentation presenta presenta- tion and will need lots of help In talking to Mrs Rux flux and others I have noted that from the comments that they have received the Sanpete South Stake Is really being put on the world map via the pageant Comments are being received from around the country from persons who are planning to be here next summer I wouldn't be too surprised to see at least persons here a night if the work is done on the temple grounds enabling many of ot the audience to see seethe seethe seethe the pageant instead of ot trees Other events during the coming coming coming com com- ing year promise to be shining stars Of or course we couldn't list them all but the County Fair looks like a safe bet to Improve Another thing that will take place this year will be the election of ot three city council council- man More than likely all three Incumbents in both Mantl Manti and Ephraim will avow all yearlong yearlong year yearlong long that they have had all they can take and promise to keep their political hats out of the ring Come late summer someone in their political parties will convince many of ot them that they must stay on The city fathers will probably do so with the Idea that they dont don't stand a chance in the world of ot being elected I can almost predict that 1 if any anyone one of ot them does get the Ule job back that some tears will willbe willbe be shed Perhaps the reason that they will be re-elected re Is that the voters feel teel that they haven't received enough punishment as yet People who dont don't count their calories usually have havethe havethe havethe the figures to prove It ManU Mantl residents will soon be faced with a problem that Ephraim Ephraim Ephraim Eph Eph- raim residents tackled several months ago On Monday evening January the Manti Mantl City Council has called a public hearing at atthe atthe atthe the city building to air the proposed proposed proposed pro pro- posed zoning ordinance The city of ot EphraIm adopted much the same ordinance earlier earlier earlier ear ear- lier in the year The MantI Mantl ordinance will designate desIgnate designate des des- des des- ignate certain areas in the city for one unit residential dwellings dwellings dwellings dwell dwell- ings others for multiple units certain areas for tor enterprises and spots for agri agri- culture Although we haven't read the ordinance as yet we believe that It will improve MantI Mantl It will enable those in the agricultural agricultural agricultural agri agri- cultural business to know where whereto to locate their ventures while those who wish to build new homes wont won't be faced with the plight of ot being surrounded by new corrals or other undesirable undesirable undesirable able things The new ordinance will wUl provide provide provide pro pro- vide a place for tor those who wish to live lve in trailers or to build duplexes The best way for tor all ManU Manta residents to become acquainted acquaint acquaint- ed with the proposed ordinance is to attend the meeting and ask city officials questions I believe for the most part the people of ot Ephraim have ironed out their problems in inthe inthe inthe the zoning law Some of ot the changes that were necessary will be incorporated where they will apply anyway in the new Mantl Manti law 9 My said a local woman woman woman wom wom- an an auction Badgers and the MantI Mantl appear to be in for a go good d basketball year People have speculated during during dur dur- ing the past few months that the Badgers would be tough because of the top flight of Gagers assembled by Coach Gary Bliss No one seems to be disappointed disappointed disappointed dis dis- dis- dis appointed in them either as they improve with each game Former Craig Nielsen and Steve are right in the thick of ot the action for the Badgers Another Another Another An- An An An- other former standout Doug Neeley Is also part of ot the Snow squad The were relegated ted to the basement after the graduation of their outstanding outstanding outstanding ing team last year At least most local residents felt that the school was destined for fora a poor showing this year The inexperienced Temps have matured rapidly What they lack in experience they make makeup makeup up In spirit and drive and de de- de sire They have beaten some of the best in the state and have been edged by some that are listed in the prognostications as the very best Now some of ot the people who were prophesying doom in the Templar camp now assert that the Manti Mantl High School five may maywell maywell maywell well be a top contender in the state tournament Both squads will go a long longway longway longway way this year barring Injuries and unfortunate situations The and the Badgers Badgers Badgers ers have or soon open their league schedules We wish them both bot success in their endeavors Do you ever get the uncomfortable un uncomfortable uncomfortable un- un comfortable
