county A A. concrete road 18 feet wide 6 inches thi thick k at the edge and 8 inches thick in the center will vill coat cost about per mile including m- m in including the culverts nece necessary sar r grading and drainage This roa road i would cost the taxpayer yer annually as follows for a serial Boner Bond issue Interest and principal to retire the bonds in 20 years l Maintenance 12 miles at Total I Figured on a basis of 00 as the average assessed valuation of the county during the next twenty years last year it was ms the cost to the taxpayer will be for cash assessed valuation each year Accor According ing to the report of the county clef clel k there was expended expended expend expend- ed on state hi highways hw ys of Sanpete last year on on 69 miles of road 36 or per mile which wakes makes 35 cents maintenance cost for each assessed valuation each year all reports from all the road men we could get reports reports reports re re- re- re ports from considerably more money will vill have to be expended this year and in future years than vas was expended last year if the roads are to be kept up to their present standard without improvements According to these figures which can be verified by any anyone one desiring to do so the construction and maintenance of the proposed concrete road will cost the taxpayer only 1 25 for each assessed valuation yearly more than he now pays to maintain our present prese-nt dirt roads Assuming the average assessed valuation of homes to tobe be 1000 and on farms 2000 the extra cost for the concrete roads to the average average average av av- av- av home owner will be and to the average farm owner per year On this basis we will have at the end of twenty years a concrete road worth at least 50 per cent of its original cost in place of the the dirt road we will h have ve realized the a advance vance in property values property Values that always f follows Hows good roads and we will have had the pleasure of traveling over smooth surfaced dustless highways for 20 years I good in winter and in summer Every tax payer in the county will also h have ve received I or indirectly some benefit from the circulation the of money paid out for construction These figures are based on a Bond issue but it must be remembered remember d that only one-half one or 00 of the bonds can be besold sold now which will reduce all the figures one If the bond issue c carries your tax will be increased 75 cents on each assessed valuation until more bonds are sold Now Mr Tax Payer figure your assessed valuation of 1919 at fur for each and you have the approximate amount it will cost you to pay your proportion of the hard surfaced highway over and above what it cost last year to maintain a dirt road such as we now have If you think it is worth that much to you then vote YES on April J I And again the federal government has offered to make a federal federal fed fed- eral project of our one road from the Juab to the Sevier County I lines and of offEr fr r to pay 50 per-cent per of the c construction Jn ct and maintenance ance cost A bill is is' pending in congress and it is almost certain that it will be enacted into law which provides that on federal pr project roads the government will pa pay 80 80 per percent of the cost of construction and maintenance leaving the remaining 20 cent per to tobe tobe to tobe be assumed by bYthe the state and county government What Does That Mean to Us Ua On the Manti Pigeon Hollow project the federal government this year will give us one-half one of the cost of that road which amounts amounts amounts a- a mounts to over over The bond issue provides for of county money to be expended on the road from Pigeon Hollow to the he Juab county line and to be expended on the road from the south limits of Manti to the Sevier county line on the main highway Assuming that the state will match these amounts and the federal bill is enacted enacted enacted en en- acted which provides 80 per-cent per of the cost then thel we will have available available a- a a- a for road b building purposes without bonding for more money money money mon mon- ey from the federal government and from the state or a total of At an estimated cost of per mile which is considered consider consider- ed high these sums will build 22 miles of 18 foot concrete roads There Ther are about 55 miles of road from rom the Juab t to the Sevier county lines With 34 miles paved there remains remain 21 miles unpaved On the same basis of apportionment and costs as above these 21 miles will cost The federal government pays 80 percent percent percent per per- cent or of this sum aum the state 10 per cent per or the county 10 per cent or This makes the total government gift to us on this one highway highway highway high high- way of 1297 It will cost us to get it Is it a good buy for us 1 Think of it Mr Taxpayer if the county will contribute there will be expended on our roads which will give us 50 miles of 18 foot concrete roads besides giving to Mt Pleasant Spring City and Fairview w distrIcts This offer is made to us for our acceptance now we cant can't dodge or delay it If we vote vote the bonds the blessings as Commissioner Commissioner Commis Commis- Parley said ar are are ours If we refuse the project project project pro pro- offer will be withdrawn and given to counties clamoring for it I.
