B Isaacson former resident of Ephraim Elder Isaacson 72 an As Assistant Assistant Assistant As- As to the Twelve passed away Monday at am a.m. Inthe in inthe inthe the Hospital in Salt Lake City after a lingering Illness He had been ill for several years after suffering a stroke early In February 1966 He had served many years as a general authority of the Church He was called on Dec 13 1946 as second counselor counselor counselor coun coun- to Elder LeGrand Richards Richards Richards Rich Rich- ards in the Presiding Bishop Bishop- ric He held this position until April 6 1952 when he was sustained sustained sustained sus sus- as first counselor to Presiding Bishop Joseph L L. L He was sustained as an As Assistant Assistant Assistant As- As to the Council of Twelve In 1961 On Oct 25 1965 he was set apart as a counselor In the First Presidency to Pres Pros David O. O McKay Upon the death of President McKay in January of this year he resumed the of office office office of- of fice of Assistant to the Twelve Elder Isaacson was born Sept 6 1898 In Ephraim a son o of Martin and Mary Beal Isaac Isaac- son In Ephraim the Isaacson lived in the home on East Center Street now occupied by Pres and Mrs Floyd S Holm Mr Isaacson served as superintendent dent of the North Ward MIA and both he and Mrs Isaacson Isaacson Isaacson Isaac Isaac- son were active in other church programs He was a member of the Lions Club and was ac active active active ac- ac tive In other community affairs His main activity however was as coach and teacher at Ephraim High School He de developed developed developed de- de some very outstanding basketball teams and took at least two of them to the state tournament He also sold sold sold-in- in insurance especially during the summer months He took a prominent part in tournament He also sold in insurance insurance In- In sur nce especially during the summer months He took a prominent part in having Snow College made a branch of Utah State Agricultural Agricultural Agricultural tural College now Utah State University when the state seemed to be considering se seriously seriously seriously se- se discontinuing Snow as a state junior college In October 1955 Elder and Mrs Isaacson were honored by old friends in Ephraim at ata ata ata a testimonial dinner President McKay was among the guests who paid tribute to the couple Elder Isaacson married Lula Maughan Jones of Wellsville In the Salt Lake Temple on June 16 1930 He Is survived by his widow one and one son Mrs Royal Joyce Tribe and Richard A. A Isaacson all ail of Salt Lake City nine grandchildren four brothers and one sister LaVarS Eddie Mrs H. H P. P Sarah Dennison all of Salt Lake City Ellis Ems Long Beach Calif and Lindon Ogden Burial was In the Salt Lake City Cemetery |
