Show A4 The Emery County Review, Tuesday, December 23, 2008 Christmas Band Concerts Combined Band Concert The combined Castle Dale and Cottonwood Elementary sixth grade bands, along with the Emery High School band presented a joint Christmas concert on Dec. 16.The elementary schools presented four Christmas selections with Ben Carrol as director. Mr. Carrol said, “The sixth grade students are phenomenal” and they proved it with their performances. The high school band performed several Christmas selections, including a stylish Christmas percussion presentation using drums and xylophones with varying rhythms. They also performed a comparative “Sleigh Ride” with an arrangement by Prokofiev and then Leroy Anderson’s traditional arrangement. Brandon Larsen, a former Emery High student now attending SUU, conducted the final Sleigh Ride selection. The finale for the evening concert was a combination of the band inserting excerpts from several songs into Neal Peacock’s narrating a fun, humorous rendition of “The Night Before Christmas.” San Rafael Band Concert The San Rafael Winter Band Concert featured 98 young musicians who treated the crowd to an entertaining combination of numbers. From holiday favorites like “Frosty the Snow Man,” less-known songs like “Viking Legend,” to a variation on a classic in “Parade of the Bumbling Wooden Soldier,” the student-musicians, with Band Director Eldon Carbine, shared their talents with family, friends and locals. The concert began with the seventh grade, Intermediate Band playing “Viking Legend,” “Frosty the Snow Man” and “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree.” The eighth and ninth grades Advanced Band then performed “Of Kings and Christmas” and “Parade of the Bumbling Wooden Soldier,” and the two bands joined to play “Hanukkah Song” and “Let it Snow.” To wrap up the evening, 22 members of the advanced band tried their hands at adding a Jazz twist to the winter classic “Deck the Halls.” Canyon View, Huntington-Cleveland Christmas Concert The Canyon View Junior High band joined forces with the Huntington and Cleveland sixth grade classes for a Christmas Concert on Dec. 18. Conducted by Reed Fehlberg, the combined bands presented a variety of holiday favorites for friends and family.
