Show MINING CONGRESS FINISHES ITS LABORS next meeting office elected and adopted the international mining congress thursday elected officers selected butte as the place to hold the next meeting adopted resolutions and ad journoud sine die these officers were elected president E L shaffner of cleve land 0 first vice president major fred heed of boise s irwin mahon of pennsylvania treasurer ali lamp of knoxville tenn rhe committee on permanent or recommended bradford L prince for re election for pres dent but the congress turned the recommend a tion down for the reason that governor prince was suspected of desiring to hold the position in order to be in line for the position of secretary of mining if the place shall be established by con gress this was freely talked of among the delegates and Is unquestionably mainly responsible for h s defeat ahe vote was 68 for shaffner to 41 for pince and the formers selection was made unanimous the following resolutions were adopted whereas the primary and most important purpose of this congress is to inaugurate a movement that will ultimately result in the establishment by the national government of a bureau or department of mining and whereas in order to accomplish that purpose it will be necessary to bring before the people of the united states and present to them in form euch information upon that question as will convince them of the great im of the movement whereas in order to successfully disseminate this information nate branches of this congress should be created in all states of this union in order that through the nate branches this work may be car ried on under the directions of the international congress therefore be it resolved that steps should be taken at this meeting of the international mining congress to properly and thematically inaugurate this movement and further be it resolved Ee solved that the president of this congress be and is hereby authorized and directed to appoint either before or after the adjournment of this meet ing a committee of three to formulate articles of confederation to embody and carry out tl e purposes above set forth and to appoint in each state and territory of the union one person to be known as tl e organizer of subordinate branches of this congress the same to be done until said articles of aeration are formed and adopted under the d of the president and sec rotary of cress |
