Show Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday November 7, 2000 9A Veterans honored at San Rafael Jr. High - San Rafael students will participate in a Veterans Day As- sembly at San Rafael Junior High, honoring the veterans of all wars. Veterans Day is a day to re- member and recognize the millions of Americans, past and present, whose military service has kept our nation safe and strong, and whose sacrifices have helped preserve the freedoms Americans enjoy today. The service learning class un- der the direction of Jonnie Johansen and Verna Higbee who have spearheaded the preparations. They have interview'ed veterans, sent out invitations, and prepared bulletin boards honoring veterans. Other departments have joined the preparation. The chorus department, under direction of Hans Bantjer, have prepared songs. The drill team under the direction of Stacie Jewkes have prepared a dance. Johansens eighth grade English class has developed a themetic unit about freedom, using novels and short stories. The computer class has prepared a power point presentation to go with the songs. The entire school has voted for candidates and issues. Veterans have not been forgotten at San Rafael Junior High. Patriotism and appreciation of sec!t..l() a. til. All vetcruns, their families, and parents are invited to attend. A third performance will be given for the Perron Elementary. The theme for the assembly will be Leaders of the Pust and Present" w hich w ill be presented in narration, song, dance, and through the media.
