Show E mery County Progress Wednesday, March 5, 1984 3 A Health department lias child vaccine A safe and effective vaccine, haemophilus Influenza, Type B, for preschoolers ages years Is now available in the Castle Dale Health Department. 25 Haemophilus Influenza type b Is a bacterium which can cause severe disease in children less than 5 years of age. This bacterium can cause and infections other systems of the body such as the blood, joints, bone, soft tissue, throat and covering of the heart. of pneumonia About 1 out of 200 children In the U.S. will have a moderate to severe case of haemophilus b disease before their fifth birthday. Almost 40 percent of this disease occurs in children ages 18 months of age and older. All children two years of age should be immunized. Ideally children should be immunized within one month following their second birthday. Children to 2 years of age be considered for immay munization if they attend daycare facilities. Children who e facilities and attend who are at high risk are more likely to develop severe haemophilus b disease than those who do not attend day day-car- care. Children three and four years of age should be considered for immunization if they attend day care facilities. The haemophilus b vaccine is relatively free of side effects. Iledness andor swelling and a fever might occur after the vaccine is given. These signs and symptoms begin within 24 hours after the shot is given but generally will go away quickly. The vaccine costs $10 per shot. The vaccine injection is 0 available Mondays from a.m. at the Castle Dale Health Department. Thedemonstration will show you how to obtain designed eggs with natural dyes which is much easier than the traditional tablets.
