The problem is not confined to Utah, but is facing most states across the nation, according to the report of the Foundation, a it research inprivate, stitution. of students Only about 20 in the primary grades are likely to complete four years of col-lee and employment projections for the immediate future in Utah indicate only about 15 of job openings will be at the professional level, the Foundation notes. Many authorities believe the system is for available employment in professional areas and non-prof- g, over-produci- under-producin- at levels in terms g of existing pat- and projected employment terns. Neglect of vocational education education for specific earning skills rather than for academic achievement to be rooted in prejudice on the part of parents, students, and many educators, the Foun dation reported. Parents almost universally want their children to obtain college degrees, and educators constantly seek the higher prestige of academic distinction. The result is that students who turn to vocational training are often viewed as acaeven though demic drop-outsociety may urgently need the specific skills which they acquire. Leaders of business and industry believe Utahs vocational education program has made great strides in the last ten years, and that communication between industry and education is now excellent. The schools' program of designing special vocational study courses to meet is specific job requirements praised as one of the strongest features of Utahs vocational education effort. One major problem is keepg ing up with todays technology, the Foundation reports. People must be trained for tomorrows jobs, not yesterdays.
