Earl Acord, principal of the Castle Dale district school, and Miss Delpha Pettey of Ferron, were married October 10, 1917. Mrs. Martina Miller, wife ot R. C. Mller, Justice of the Peace of Castle Dale precinct, died October 10, 1917, after a three weeks' illness. The most severe windstorm ever to visit Emery county, visited Emery on October 24, 1917. Apple trees were stripped of their fruit, hay and strawstacks were scattered over town, many were chimneys and house-gablblown down, and window lights broken in nearly every house in town. Funeral services were held on Nov. 7, 1917, in Oraingeville, for toe first Emery county boy to die in the U. S. Service in the World War, Ivan Jewkes, who passed away in the naval hospital at San Diego, Calif., a few days previous. He was the son of Samuel R. Jewkes. On Nov. 2, 1917, the home of Win. Keele, at Emery, was destroyed by fire, with its entire contents. The family was away from home at the time. Orlo Cox and Miss Emily both of Huntington, were married In Salt Lake City early in November 1917. Among the marriages of young people in Cleveland the first week to November, 1917, were those of Miss Hilda to George Sherfick, of Mohrland; George Stokes to Miss Lucille Lloyd, of Black Hawk; Miss Laverda Winkler to Carlos Alger, both of Cleveland. Louis P. Oveson, of Cleveland, met with a rather serious accident on Nov. 4, 1917, when he Inadvertantly stepped into a es Lem-mo- m, Ms-Mul- lin five-fo- ot pit at the Huntington garage. At the city election held in Castle Dale in the fall of 1917, J. Wellington Seely, for president, and Aaron N. Oman, N. L. Williams, A. D. Keller and Alvin Jensen for trustees, went in with a whoop. The (home of E. J. Grange at Huntington was destroyed by Are of unknown origin on the night of Nov. 11, 1917, the fam ily barely escaping in their night clothes. All the family'? clothing and practically all of their household effects went up in the blaze. Mrs. G. F. Hickman sold her 20 acres on the bench in Castle Dale in November 1917, to Wiley Call, and later purchased the terrace property opposite the square from A. D. Keller, where she expected to make iher home. Wm. Cash, second son of Postmaster and Mrs. W. L. Cash, and Miss Marie Sherwood, both of Castle Dale, were married Nov. Vast A n. 31 46 and Ferris Nelson, who had joined the colors, and were leaving to join the Engineers corps. Clell Petty, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Petty, of Ferron, athlete and school teacner, and Miss Elsie Roberts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alohzo Roberts of Kanosh, were married in Price, December 22, 1917. Louis W. Hitchcock and Miss Nora Tatton, both of Clawson, were 19, 1917, by Bishop S. H. Larsen. A. D. Keller, of Castle Dale, was called to Manti the latter part of November, 1917, by the illness of his brother Fred, who died shortly after his arrival. John G. flimothy, of Cleveland, received several broken ribs and some bad cuts, when his car struck a culvert near Castle Dale, and overturned, in December 1917, pinning him under the machine. His son Lew escaped injury by jumping from the car as it turned over. December 1, 1917, Lamar, 19- son of Mr. and Mrs. E. year-ol- d E. Davis, of Cleveland, was run over by a load of wood and bad ly Injured. Horace Nelson, son of Chris Nelson, and Frank Nelson, son of Joseph Nelson of Ferron, en listed in the U. S. army in De cember 1917. Luther Tatton of Clawson and Miss Mary Barney of Provo were married in Provo In December, 1917. Emery county's first contritou tlon to Uncle Sam's aviation service, was Harold Leonard, Huntington athlete, who Joined that department in December, 1917, in the World War. Henry Kartchner of Blanding and Mass Nora Black of Hunt tngton were wed in Price, in December, '1917. Mr3. S. V. Acord, wife of Sam uel Acord of Castle Dale, sue cumbed to a heart attack on Dec. 10, 1917. She was born in Draper, Utah, Oct. 29, 1869, and married Samuel V. Acord Jan 28, 1890. Mrs. Acord was the mother of eight children, seven of whom were living at the time of their mother's death. Among the local boys enlist lng in the army in December of 1917, to join in the World War, were Wm. H. and Oharles Cowley, of Cleveland, Robt. V. King of Clawson, Oscar Evans of Castle Dale and Gunnar Soder-quiof Ferron. The town of Ferron was rejoicing in December 1917, over the completion of the town's new water system. Yukon Fugate and Miss Maggie Jensen, both of Ferron, were married in Castle Dale by Justice O. Sorensen, Jr., in December, 1917. Orange Olsen, of Castle Dale, took the forest ranger's examination in the fall of 1917, and left to work in the forest office ut Ephraim until spring, when vne expected to assume the duties of ranger on the Mlanti forest. Elder Peter E. Johansen, who had served 26 months on a European mission, was released to come home in December, '17. Byron C. Peacock, of Emery, st married in January, ... 1917.
