Show PRESIDENT AT party erronte to washington page thrones ogden sunday president shake hand with throng president mckinley and party passed through ogden sunday evening en route to washington from san francisco which point they left saturday forenoon at 10 clock bain fell while the desert was being crossed freshen ing the air and laying the dust for which the party felt grateful it was feared the ride across the hot desert might injurious to mrs mckin ley but she appeared better anan when the start was made the presidential special arrived at ogden at 7 23 sunday evening A great crowd was waiting to catch a glimpse of the chief executive As soon as the train stopped a rush for the president 8 car was made governor wells and senator kearns climbed over the iron railing and entered the car greeting the president judges miner and bartch general 0 S burton W weaver whittemore alma eld redge E whittemore and parley P christensen were later admitted to the car governor wells while in the car presented president mckinley with a silken flag stating that it represented the patriotism of the state being made by utah people of silk raised in utah president mckinley accepted the flag and expressed his appreciation of the gift after being received by the president governor wells stepped to the platform of the president s car and requested that no applause be given when the president appeared fearing the noise and excitement might injuriously effect mrs mckinley this injunction wae not heeded and the president s appear ance created an outburst of enthusiasm the president shook hands with all who could reach him before the train left at 7 55 the president informed senator kearns that he would visit utah before his term of office expired |
