Show LIBBY PRISON HERO DIES. General Benjamin F. Fisher Last Survivor Sur-vivor of Nineteen Who Escaped. Philadelphia. General Benjamin Franklin Fisher, aged 81, who was chief signal officer of the United States army during the civil war, died Friday on his farm overlooking Washington's headquarters at Valley Forge. General Fisher was a lawyer and after the war became prominent in financial circles. He was the last survivor of the nineteen union soldiers who tunnelled their way out of Libby prison and made their way back to their own lines after great hardships. |
