The toadflax weeds By Black Henbane, Yellow l Kiclllax and Dalmation Tbad-ll- a were just recently added to the county noxious weed list (currently 22 listed) for Carbon County. The three weeds were recently added because there is only 13 known sites of Black lenbane I have seven known sites and totaling 1.5 acres total. These three new weeds have explosive potential to threaten our lands. Carbon County is at a critical period of time with lots of land currently being disturbed. The Utah Noxious Weed Act (Title 4. chapter 17 rule ) requires that all R68-09- passing across, through, or adjacent to the facility. It is considered I a poisonous plant to humans. Yellow and Toadflax Dalmation Toadflax are fairly similar in description, both being a perennial, to 2 feet tall, and up to 3 feet respectively. They reproduce by seed and 1 underground root stocks. Leaves are pale green, and flowers are inch long with a bearded, orange throat. Your help is needed to control them. The invasion is like a biological wildfire raging out of control (Steve Dewey, Utah State Weed Specialist) Noxious weeds already infest over 100 million acres in the United States, Spreading at a rate of 4,600 acres per day. Yearly losses due to noxious weeds in crops is estimated at $7.4 billion nationally. Carbon County has approximately 10,000 acres of noxious weeds. Noxious weeds: Reduce crop yields Crowd out desirable and native forages Increase soil erosion Ruin wildlife and bird habitat Poisonous to livestock and wildlife The Utah Noxious Weed Act (Title 4, Chapter 17, rule R68-09- ) requires that all land owners or people in possession of property be responsible for the control of noxious weeds on their property.
