Show Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday April j), 2002 5A Emery County Emery softball off with a blast The Emery High Girls Soft-ba- ll Team hosted six teams on March 22-2- 3 at the Huntington Ball Complex in the Ultimate (Softball Blast. Each team played five games. The varsity team of Emery tied Union for 1st place; Emery With four wins, one loss. The Emery Junior Varsity came away with a four wins and no Josses. Team standings are: Emery . wins over Carbon, North Sevier, West High, and San Juan, losing to Union; Union defeated North Sevier, West, San Juan, Emery, and lost to Carbon; Carbon beat Union, North Sevier, and West, losing to Emery and San Juan; San Juan defeated Carbon and North Sevier, losing out to Emery, West, and Union; West High defeated San Juan, but lost to North Sevier, Emery, Union, and Carbon; and North Sevier beat West High, but lost to Emery, Carbon, Union and San Juan. This tournament was a winning blast for Emery team members: Brandi Jensen, Misha Adley, Erin Anselmo, Michelle Johansen, Krista Ungerman, Holly Bell, Adrian MacKnee, Cortni Jensen, Whitney Erickson, Amber Gardner, Tina Ward, Mandy Weihing, Jeanna Morash, Stacie Giles, Valerie Bell, and Mackelle Huntington, and for Coach Tom Hansen. On April 2 Emery faced North Sanpete at home, but the home-fiel- d advantage proved to be no help as the varsity team lost and the junior varsity team lost Against Lehi on April 4 the varisty team won 3 and the junior varsity team lost 8-- 12-1- 4. The softball team is in second place with a 1 record. Holly Bell has been pitching great for the Lady Spartans and her bat has helped, too. She went 2-- in Emerys 6-- 4 win against Delta. After beating Delta 0 and demolishing North Sanpete 18-Emery lost a tough 1 decision at Lehi Friday. Emerys game against Carbon will be Tuesfor control of the region. Carbon won the state tournament last year and only suffered one Field at day Spartan loss the entire season. This years team is tough, also. They are 0 in region and still have powerful pitching. Emery relies mostly on the pitching of Travis Barnett, who has improved every year. The Spartans have one more round of games in the region and have a great opportunity to finish at the top. 2-- 11-- 5-- 7, 3-- The Emery girls 4x100 meter relay team almost didnt race because of injuries sustained by one of the team. Emery High came out fourth over all with schools competing from Utah both and Colorado.
