GEORGE The Southern Utah Senior Softball Association's 74-plus age group team wona gold medal in the Huntsman World Senior Games recently. The team beat a team from California in the first game of the medal round and defeated the Southwest Airlines team from Salt Lake City for the gold. Joe Carvalho had a grand slam home run in the fifth inning and was instrumental in a double play to end the game in the seventh as the team won 18-14 This was the first year the team entered this age group. Its members said they hope their motto of “just playing is winning” will lead to a 79plus team in the future. SUSSA is a group of 60plus plays that plays on Tuesday and Thursday mornings year-around. The games are usually on fields 6 and 7 at The Canyons Complex. All players in that age group are welcome to participate, then enjoy the after-game meetings at the McDonald's on Sunset and Dixie Downs, where the games and replayed and amplified. GEORGE — Melinda Boswell was looking for her. business niche when she decided to move to St. George. Her boyfriend, Dave Clark, knew what it was since he had lived in St. George previously. They opened Southern Utah Indoor Soccer at 415 South Dixie Drive last month. So far the response has been good. The facility features a 150by-70-foot field where teams of 10 play 6-on-6 soccer. During the first month, people dropped in to play. On Nov. 12, however, league play began with eight teams. Boswell said she expected another eight to begin to try (the indoor soccer facility) out? said Boswell, who owns the company, “I asked Dave to make up a business plan, then let him bring his soccer knowledge as the manager: ” Teams can join a league for $400 with an additional $10 a week for referee fees. They play once a week -for eight weeks. During drop-in play, individuals pay $5 to play pick- up games.
