We were told we had to pass the-bill because the US. Treasury.Secretary said the markets would fail without action. It became a self-ful- filling prophecy. “Do something” was the plea from worried families and business owners everywhere. opposed the bill because I believe it is the wrong approach to actually fixing the problem. The version passed by the Senate was even worse. It’s larded with more debt, such as tax exemptions for some companies that make toy wooden arrows, rum producers in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and auto track owners. What is not included is any long-term reform language that would prevent this type of crisis from hap- District peningagain. Worse, it includes a new provision that loosens regu- lation of mortgage securities. No one in Congress fully understands the implication of this proposal. We run the risk of encouraging shoddy accounting practices at a time when no one trusts the numbers on the balance sheets of the troubled banks. Without credible financial statements, it will only get harder for the banking system to attract new capital. Congress is going to have to return in January to deal with this again. It is bad for markets, household budgets and national security when our economic wellbeing depends on the largesse of foreign governments who buy up our debt. Utahns ' tradition of balancing the family budget and living within our means is one the federal government would do well to follow. ‘We are now facing uncertainty on the economic front © that has me and everyone else concerned. No one wants to see hardship like ‘the loss of a job, a home, or business expansion oppor- tunity. My goal is to_present my totally unbiased opinion proving why everyone should vote for the candidate of my choice. The problem I encountered is this: I was going to write first about Barrack Obama, but then thought ~ that ifI did that the McCain supporters would think I was showing favoritism. Writing about McCain first would have had the same effect — only opposite. Here is how the dilemma was resolved — I flipped a coin. Heads and McCain goes first... It was heads. For those readers who are a little miffed at me because I have overlooked many of John McCain's achievements, let me just say that it was very difficult to get his biography shrunk down to 100 words.. Now it’s time to present Barrack Obamas biography in 100 words. Barrack Obama graduated from Harvard Law School where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review. He taught constitutional law for 12 years and wrote a book entitled “Dreams From My Father”, although not necessarily in that order. As a member of the 110th Congress he helped create legislation to control conventional weapons and promote greater public accountability in the use of federal funds.
