Sin embargo, mientras millones de inmigrantes mex- pueblo icanos efectdan manifestaciones en los Estados Unidos para reclamar mejor tratamiento para los extranjeros indocumentados, la poblacién de ilegales que tiene México —entre ellos cientos de miles de centroamericanos— son victimas de robos, agresiones y extorsi6n. Sin embargo, el nivel de brutal- idad que enfrentan en México se puso de manifiesto esta semana cuando en una operacién policial contra inmigrantes indocumenta-— dos cerca de una estacién ferroviarias en el estado central de ’ México murié a tiros un hombre local, aparentemente porque su piel cobriza y ropas de trabajo lo hacian parecer centroamericano. Virginia Sanchez, un ama de casa que vive cerca de las vias ferroviarias. que llevan a los centroamericanos hacia la frontera no es raro oir disparos como ocurrid en su pueblo de Tultitlan. “Muchas veces por la noche se escuchan los balazos y es que son los judiciales (policia estatal) que vienen detrés de los muchachos, los migrantes", dijo la mujer. “No vale, ni aqui ni en Estados Unidos, matar gente; todos somos seres humanos". Su vecina Maria _ Elena Gonzalez dijo que la policia también abusa sexualmente de las indocumentadas. “A las chicas las agarran nada mas para violarlas", dijo. “Las desnudan por completo para revisarlas, segtin ellos, pero el fin es tratar de abusar de ellas”. El inmigrante guatemalteco Carlos Lépez, de 28 afios, que se ocultaba en un campo cercano a la espera de que pasara un tren, dijo que la policia rutinariamente roba a los inmigrantes y luego los deja ir. “Si traes dinero, te lo quitan, todos, los policias locales, los estatales, los federales", dijo Lopez. En los 15 dias en que estuvo atravesando México, Lépez, un trabajador agricola, recordé cémo lo vapulearon desde que puso el vete", dijo Ramos sobre Alemania se habia resistido hasta ahora a permitir el acceso a los archivos con el argumento de resguardar la intimidad de los involucrados. LIDERAZGO predica pero no practica Associated Press WASHINGTON — Alemania anuncié el martes que propiciara la apertura de los archivos nazis con informaci6n sobre unos 17 millones de judios y trabajadores esclavizados que hace seis décadas fueron perseguidos y asesinados por los nazis y sus colaboradores durante el Holocausto. En conferencia de prensa en el Museo en Memoria del Holocausto en Washington, la ministra alemana de Justicia Brigitte Zypries dijo que su pais colaborara con Estados Unidos para lograr la apertura de los archivos que son resguardados por 11 paises en la poblacién alemana de Bad Arolsen. La medida permitira que los historiadores y los sobrevivientes tengan acceso a unos 30 0 50 millones de la policia en el estado surefio de Chiapas. Otros cuentan que algunos inmigrantes son muertos a golpes por la policia y que dejan sus cuerpos cerca de las vias para hacer parecer como que se cayeron de un tren. El debate en el Congreso se centra en si debe reforzarse la seguridad fronteriza y considerarse delincuentes a los indocumentados, como decidié en diciembre la Camara de Representantes, o si debe protegerse el territorio nacional pero abriendo una via para que entre 11 y 12 millones de trabajadores ilegales y sus familiares obtengan la ciudadania estadounidense. Chao lleg6 legalmente con su familia, de Taiwan, cuando tenia ocho afios. Gutiérrez escapd6 de Cuba con su familia a los cinco ajfios, y dirigié la gigante de los cereales Kellogg’s, antes de unirse al gabinete de Bush como secretario de Comercio, el afio pasado. Gonzales es hijo de inmigrantes legales méxico-estadounidenses. Se crié en Texas, pero tres de sus cuatro abuelos nacieron en México. Mineta, de 74 afios, es descendi- ente de japoneses. |
