Kelly is expensive at SPECIAL OFFERINGS FROM THE - 165 SOUTH MAIN pOOR lighting and poor eyesight art responsible for mu of every eight accidents. nr. U. E. Simpson, the engineer of the Travelers' Insurance company of Hartford, Conn., has mude a nation- wide study of the relation between ue-cldenta and vision. In a recent report to the Eyesight Conservation council lie states that not only is poor eye- sight one of the Important cause of accidents, hut that lid per cent American workmen have some defect of vision. Good eyesight has alwuys been an important factor In man's welfare. Among primitive men, living under na- tural conditions, It was probably the most important condition, not only for the avoidance of accidents, but also for the preservation of life Itself. The primitive savage came Into a world in which everything wus against him. He bad no weapons to defend himself against savage animals or equally savage human enemies ez- cept a atone or a club torn from a tree. Even If he were stronger than his enemies this availed him nothing unless he could see hia enemy before his enemy saw him. He got his food from trees and bushes and from the bodies of wild animals killed In the chase. Unless he had sharp eyes he could not And and catch his dinner. The man with the heat eyes got the best food and was best able to protect himself. We are living today In an artificial and mechanical worltl, but the same principles are still In force. The child with defective vision cnn-ntake part In Its companions' sports and pastimes, and so grow up with a weak and undeveloped body. Its inor vision exposes It to many dangers which Its sharp-eye- d companions avoid The rhlld cannot see the approaching street car, railroad train or automobile. Among grownups the workman la more liable to accident limn hia normal associates. "Accidents do happen," sny Doctor Simpson. "There is a reason back of each one." "An appalling mimlier of accidents la due to defective vision. Sight Is the most valuable protection against bodily Injuries. Muny workers start In knndlcnpiied by Imperfect vision. Any workman whose eyesight is below normal Is not only an unsatisfactory worker, but Is also a source of dungcr to himself und others." If you are a parent, see Hint your child's eyes are tested und, If hia vlalon is below normal, give him glaasea that will put him on an equality with Ids playmates. If you ure a working man or woman, don't allow yourself to be handicapped by Imperfect vision. Will the removal of the tonsils benefit this child? An answer to this question, on a large scule, has recently been given by Dr. Albert D. Kaiser of Rochester, N. Y. In a recent Issue of the "Journal of the American Medical Association," he gives the results of a comparison of 1,200 children who had had their tonsils removed, with 1,200 who consideration. EDISON MAZDA LAMPS A Lamp for Every Purpose APEX ELECTRIC Three years ago a careful physical examination of all the school children In Rochester was made. A large number of children with diseased tonsils were found. The parents were aaked In each cane If they wished their child's tonsils removed. Over 5,000 children, with the consent of their parents, had their diseased tonsils taken out. Doctor Kaiser's report covers the present condition of 1,200 of these children as compared with the same number who were not operated on. He finds that the children whoso tonsils were removed have had fewer sore throats and colds during the last three years than those who did not have them removed; that it has reduced the amount of diphtheria and heart disease; and that the growth and nutrition of the children operated on are much better than those who kept their tonsils. Doctor Kaiser's report shows that iwnoval of the tonsils prevents any further attacks of "sure throat" dua to Inflammation of the tonsils. Hnt it does more than this. It also reduces the danger of other throat infection. Most children who have frequent sore throats" are below tho average la strength and resistance. Tha Infected tonalls are an added handlcapt Removing them gives tho child a better chance to resist other children'! diseases. GRANITE FURNITURE CO.
