Show MOXKKY SKIXEtf AM) TAIUI F (By L. A Hollcnbeclt.) Farm relief in congress. If a monkey mon-key were a thousand years older he would 'laugh himself to death to see the monkey shines for farm relief In congrese. A big fight tp- give the furmers- a tariff and another fight to give him a debenture, which means a bonus out of the tariff tax that the country is already Betting, and lastly, last-ly, a reduction of the tariff -on manufactured man-ufactured goods, but you may Lave no ifear that the last will happen. Most of this fight Is- all bunk. The scheme is to do something to fool the farmers and the public. If they wanted to help the farmers, they ctould pass a law in one week that wiould give the farmers relief. It isn't a tariff on 'the farmers products that we want, except a little to project pro-ject the farmer against the cheap labor and low cost of living in for-jdgn for-jdgn countries. That is more than provided for now, and if there is a tariff levied on farm products, it w-ill 1 kill the foreign trade, and that will ! cause a disaster to the manufactur-1 manufactur-1 ers' products, because foreign na tions will retaliate. The louly way to do it and do It right, is to cut tho ; tariff on manufactured products. That , would boost foreign trade and help . the farmer and everybody and that is what wo ought to have. Why, don't wc do it then? Simply because the manufacturers of- the east arc not willing lo take their hands out of the pockets of the people. They are getting immense profits and they propose to keep right on getting, and they are becoming immensely rich, and all this by-play In congress ( is to pretend lo help the farmer and to befuddle everything so that the j people will net see that the real milk in he cocoanut lis that the manufacturers manufac-turers are determined not U - '.et loose I of anything. That is "AM there ibe jto it,' as 13111 says. It iLke-s a lot of j by-play and guff and bunk to 'fool the people, but they seem to do it. I am i in diD-ubt about tbe truth of what Lincoln said that "You can -fool a i part of the people all of the time, all of the people part of the time, "out you cant fool all the people ail the time.'' It sounds well, but -the grafters graft-ers seem to fool enough people all the time so that they do uot know what ails lliem. o |
