Show coxcoic-- olume 3 Per Copy 5c Dragerton, Utah, Tuesday, April 11, 1950 p n LOCAL WOMEN'S CLUBS TO HOLD CONVENTION SATURDAY MOANING j j The Sunnyside Book cliff club and 'the Dragerton Cultura club are busy preparing for the 33rd annual convention of the Eastern district of the Utah Federation of Womens clubs which will be held in East Carbon Saturday, April 15th. Activities for the day will commence with an address by Mrs. I. R. Morrison, first vice president of the stake federation. JArs. Lambert, peace service chairman of the state federation will moderate at a panel discussion by the district chairman. Mrs. Graham will preside over the morning session. The group will be served a luncheon in the Good Shepherd hall in Dragerton and will be entertained by Mrs. Earl McAl-pinschool chorus. Following the luncheon, the ladies will tour the towns of East Carbon. Mrs. O. Jay Kingston, president es of the state federation, will be speaker for the afternoon session which will be presided over by Mrs. R. B. Humphrey, first vice president off the eastern district. Election of officers to serve for the next two years will be held days activity will be climaxed by the installation of the new officers at a tea. Fourteen clubs in Eastern Utah are affiliated with the federation. Five of the clubs are in Price and one in each of the following towns: Moab, Monticello, Dove Creek, Hiawatha, Helper, Orangeville, Green River, Sunnyside and Dragerton. Mrs. Ellis Morgan heads the IJookcliff club , and Mrs. Frank Colombo is president of the Cul- tura club. Mrs. F. L. Graham, Eastern district president, extends an invitation to any and all clubwomen to attend the convention. - Kiwanis Talent Show Wednesday Evening, April 1 9 Plans are complete for the annual Kiwanis Talent Night show of the Price Kiwanis club to be held Wednesday evening, April 19 at the "Price civic auditorium, according to Perry Codington, general chairman. The largest number of entries have been received than in any of the previous years. Practically every form of entertainment will be, assured by a wide variety of talent from all over eastern Utah. It is strictly an amateur affair, with cash prizes to be given for winning performances, said Mr. Codington. Purpose of the show is to encourage amateurs who may have ability in the entertainment field Proceeds will be used for worthy community youth projects of the Kiwanis club. A dress rehearsal at which .time youngsters 12 years old and under will be admitted free, will be held Monday evening, April 17, at the city hall. Judges who will decide the winners at the main performance are: H. J. Hanson, Dragerton; Mrs. Hal MacKnight, Price; Cal Jewkes Kenilworth; Mrs. Homer Hyatt, Castle Gate, and E. A. Nielsen, Orangeville. Members of the committee in charge, besides Mr. Codington, are Key Bunnell, Harold O. Patterick and Barney DeVietti. . Dragerton PTA.Will Hold Election Meeting Thursday The Dragerton Elementary PTA will be held in the school auditorium April . 13, Thursday evening. The program will be furnished by the fifth grades under the leadership of Mrs. Swaim, Mrs. Charley Jones and Mrs. Lee Bagnell. In addition to the regular program there will be an election of officers for the coming year. All parents are urged to attend this meeting. t ... Through the years the Rio Grande had gone into receivership several times with the Utah Fuel company being held by the bondholders, for their securities. Recent court action by the various - bondholder groups brought the issue into the open where it was necessary to liquidate the stock to pay off the bondholders. Various rumors have been circulating within the past several months that many companies would be bidding for the outright ownership. Among these have been the Kaiser Steel company, the U. S. Steel company, the present management of the Utah Fuel company and other companies who definitely need coking coal. The coking coal reserves of the Utah Fuel company are very large and constitutes one of their most important assets. Regardless of who might be the new owners the industrial picture in East Carbon will, so the reports state, remain in the same condition as at present. for . East Carbon Woman Wins Honors At - Biggs named The committee men named were itlike Turnbull, Otto Horner and George Foster. The delegates that will represent Precinct 28 are J. O. Peterson, Arthur Biggs and George Foster. The county convention will be held in Price on April 22. Among the action to be" taken at : the county convention will be the naming of the officers and the election of delegates to the state convention will be held in July. Fame Statue of Liberty Shares Musical Honors people from East Carbon met with the Carbon county school board and the superintendent of schools last Tuesday night to discuss the proposed bond issue for school improvements. As a result of this meeting the bond issue was postponed until a survey to be made by Mr. Harmon could determine the needs of the East Carbon communities. The superintendent of schools last week made .the suivey but no final decision has been given 'by the board of education. The delegation which was headed, by, Taylor W. The streets in front of the shopping center in Dragerton will be painted with yellow parking lines within the next two weeks apd the streets needing repair work will be repaired during the latter pari of June when the weather is proper for the laying-oUtah rock asphalt. The present patching being done on the streets is merely a temporary measure and will be repaired at a later date with rock asphalt. Instructions have been issued to the truck which collects the trash in Dragerton to pick up and carry away all spring house cleaning debris which the residents are placing at the curb. The cooperation of all residents is asked in placing this trash where it can be edsily picked up by the bash vehicle. The Galbreath company is also cleaning and picking up the newspaper and debris around the business district and the cooperation, of all residents in this matter Is requested.
