But Barney K. Farnsworth, president of the Coal Heating Service of Salt 'Lake City, Inc., organization of retailers, said dealers will exhaust their stocks if the cold snap continues and production continues on a three-da- y per week basis. He said no one is going cold now and that deliveries are being made, generally within two days after orders are received. Last year during the prolonged cold seize Utah and Wyoming mines were operating at full capacity. Mr. Farnsworth said dealers representing 75 to 80 per cent of the tonnage handled in Salt Lake City are planning to telegraph members of Utahs congressional delegation, urging passage of a new law or action under present ones to end the mines slowdown ordered by United Mine Workers Chief John L. Lewis. The Columbia union have approved the. appointment of "William Kendricks, secretary of Kenilworth local, and Edwin Alberts of the Dragerton local as delegates to Washington concerning the contested election of official in district 22. Ten Fatalities Listed Carbon Coal Mines For Past Year In Mine fatalities in Carbon county for 1949 totaled ten, according to reports released Thursday. This is the same number recorded for 1948. The present contract is the one negotiated during the operation of the UMW Welfare and Pension plan. This fund has not been in operation since September 17. It provides the payment of $4.00 per month per month and includes office calls, house calls, medicine and minor surgery. The old contract prior to the UMW welfare plan of last spring called for a $5.00 a month payment per man which included the provisions of the present plus hospitalization and emergency care. The East Carbon locals would like to have the old contract put back into effect for the $5.00 per month per man basis. The medical committee of the East Carbon local is reported to state that Doctor Colombo will not sign - a contract on the previous terms. The union officials say that they are not sure what type of a con- tract Doctor Colombo will sign. The medical committee states of that at present the UMW are now getting complete care for $5.00 per month. They feel that they should be on the same basis. Houston Martin and Thomas Hughes, of the Wyoming medical committee, were in Dragerton last week' to help work out a contract. The East Carbon locals did not attend a meeting that Mr. Martin called here. An attempted meeting by the East Carbon medical committee with Doctor Colombo on Friday of last week did Three of the fatalities were rec- orded at the Kenilworth mine of the Independent Coal and Coke company; one caused by a fall of coal, one by the worker being crushed between a loader and the timbers and the third when a worker fell from a 'ladder while installing brattice cloth.
