The total tabulated at the conclusion of the election held on Tuesday showed 239 against incorporation as against 182 for incorporation. The total vote cast was 421 out of 1100 registered voters in the two Dragerton precincts. ETeports received from the East Carbon community indicated that many of the eligible voters did not exercise their right to vote because they did not favor incorporation, consequently the low vote was recorded. The community of Dragerton is partially owned by the John. W. Galbreath and company, one time owners of the entire community. A majority of the houses in the community are now owned by the occupants as the result of a sale deal that has been going on for several months. Listed on the ballot with the issue of incorporation were the candidates for the various city offices who had been nominated for the positions. Inasmuch as the vote favored the ballots cast for the candidates have no bearing. However, the votes tabulated for each of the candidates were reported by County Clerk B. H. Young, under whose direction the election was conducted, as fol lows: Coal Mining Course At Carbon Looks to Greater Interest The venture in coal mining engineering at Carbon college started off with fair success during the the course, according first year-o- f to President Aaron E. It is evident that all eight of those students will be back for the second year's courses this September. There is good reason to expect that fifteen or more students will begin the freshman year in coal mining engineering this fall, to folmake around twenty-thrlowing that curriculm in engineering. Courses of instruction which were added to those previously taught at Carbon college include physical geology, historical geology, ore" minerals and petrology. Dr. Jones states that Carbon college now offers all the required and recommended courses for the first two years of engineering in civil en the following fields: gineering, chemical engineering, and electrical engineering. Added to these, of course, is the three years course in coal mining engineering. The first year of all other engineering fields may well be followed at Carbon college, he ee For Mayor A. W. The cost of this election to Carbon county was approximately $500 and according to Mr. Young, as far as can be ascertained, was the first of its kind ever held in the state. Just what the arguments are against incorporating we havent heard. It will likely be some time before another chance is given to the people to run their own town. It will likely necessitate another petition by a percentage of the people, then another special election to be held under the direction of the county. In the meantime the road and liquor funds of the state, that are divided among the cities will remain as they have been in the past and Dragerton residents will receive, no benefit therefrom. POSTAL RATES TO INCREASE Belated action to raise the federal minimum wage level, as promised in the 1948 Democratic Platform, has been taken by the Senate Labor Committee which voted approval of a proposal. It failed, however, to provide increased coverage under the Wages and Hours Act as pledged by the platform. Chances for prompt Senate action are considered extremely slim since the calendar is jammed with other must legislation which Administration strategists plan to consider first, including a n umber 6f approporiation bills and the North Atlantic Pact. Under Senate rules, the wage-hoproposal is subject to unlimited amendment on the, floor so debate on the measure would probably take some shon in the election.
