He immediately left for America where he arrived on May 31. He arrived in Salt Lake City on June 7, 1924, remaining in this diocese ever since. His first assignment in Carbon county was in 1926 when he was the assistant to the Price pastor. His duties took in Sunnyside and Hiawatha where he remained for seven months. In 1944, Father Sanders again returned to Carbon county, this time as pastor of the East Carbon area. At present there are two Catholic churches here, Saint Marys in Sunnyside and the Good Shepherd in Dragerton which have been built during Father Sanders stay in this community. His district takes him as far south as Monticello, Utah. Father Sanders was born in Holland in 1894. Per Copy 5, 1949 Temporary Road Granted by Court In Dragerton Area Labor Dispute At Kaiser EAST CARBON MARBLE Causes Walkout Judge Fred W. Keller Monday granted to Carbon county an order for a temporary occupancy on a right of way in Dragerton on property sought to be condemned by the county to open a roadway to reach property lying to the north of the Dragerton Disagreement between the union and the companies showed itself in East Carbon last week. One discussion centered around the Kaiser Coal company. The disagreement was over the in stallation of electric switches or remote control motor for the operation of the mine loocomo-tive- s. The installation of the control would allow the shuttle car operator to load the mine cars in place of a motorman. A satisfactory settlement was reached between the union and the company on Tuesday, March 29. The disagreement arose on the preceding Monday. At the Kaiser Coke Ovens the disagreement came about through the reported discharge of a man. The men quit work on Friday and returned to work the next day, Saturday, pending negotiation between the union and the company. Final details are being made at the present time for the first annual East Carbon Marble Tournament which will be held on April 16 and 23. There will be two age groups, one for 8, 9 and 10 year olds and the other for the 11, 12 and 13 year group. On April 16 will be held the elimination series. There will be a separate elimina tion in Columbia and in Dragerton. The win ners and runner-up- s of the elimination series will meet in the East Carbon district finals to be held on April 23. The starting time for each Saturday will be at 10:00 a m. Pres Summerhays of the Sunnydale-SunnysiRecreation will have charge of those two towns; Bob Bowen and the Geneva Athletic Association will have charge of Dragerton with another member of the Geneva Association taking care of Columbia. The date of the finals at Salt Lake City have not been announced as yet. If plans can be worked out the winner and runner-u- p in each age group will be sent to the finals If not, other appropriate prizes will be awarded which will include the winners and runner-up- s in townsite. The temporary order was granted on condition that Carbon county give an undertaking of bond in the amount of $2500 to secure the defendants, John W. Galbreath and company, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Goniatakis, against all damages and costs which may ensue from the taking and upon the further condition that until the final determination of the action by the court, the county is to make only those improvements which will not permanently change the condition of the premises involved. Another condition placed upon the temporary order of occupancy was that the county erect a temporary fence along the outer boundaries of the proposed right of way. In its action for condemnation of the riht of way in question the county contends that such a right of way will open up a new area in the Dragerton district for further construction and consequents ly increase the taxable property within the county. Mr. and Mrs. Andy Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. King and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Lund, all teachers at East Carbon, spent the week-en- d in Salt Lake City. The road graders have been going over the entire diamond with the object in mind of reversing the field so that home plate iS next to the road. Bleachers will be built right into the side of the hill with the afternoon and evening sun to their back. The players are doing a good bit of this work themselves and request a few more strong backs to help carry the load. A practice batting cage is already to be installed as soon as the diamond is ready to go. The Sunnyside Welfare asso' ciation has purchased a 15 per son bus for use in recreational activities. The children will, use it during the summer to go to the swimming pool in Price. The ball team will make good use of it on their trips away from home. is READY TOURNAMENT FOR PLAY ON APRIL Sunnyside-Sunnydal- county has the brightest future of any area in the Intermountain area Be To Reign af Sunnyside Gold and Green Ball 16 e, de . each community.
