This sawdust seemingly caused a chemical reaction tto take place in the air which caused the oil furnace to explode and ignite the sawdust. From the fire in the sawdust it quickly spread all about the building. The Dragerton Volunteer Fjre Department responded immediately and, according to Mr. Wiley Vaughrof the Union Supply company, did an excellent job. The fire was cornered and kept from spreading. The gas pumps and the fuel oil tanks were not reached. The men working at the station and in the vicinity assisted the fire department in a very capable those who did some very m and courageous work were Kit Daily, Dale Hubbartt, manager, Mrs. Dalt Hubbartt, Herbert Preston, Roy Coker and Albert Men-ot- ti. Most homes will have Christmas trees. Be very careful of bare wires and short circuits. Many of the light sets may be old and in need of attention. Take care of this ..before - putting - the lights about the tree. Watch, for inflammable decorations that go on the tree. Keep fire away from the trees. . Yet it la important to be careful of things about us every day. Keep trash and litter cleaned up. If you have oil cans, paint cans, gasoline, oily rags about get rid of them or put them in a safe place. All-S- Presents Tournament Awards Election of officers and presentation of medals to winners of last years ski tournament were highlights at the meeting of the Coal Mountain Skiclub held in the Price municipal building last Friday evening. Bill Thomas, Clear Creek, outgoing president of the winter sportsto organization, presented medals the first three winners of the combined races. First place went to Louis Bunnel, Helper, Mr. Thomas, Clear Creek, received second place, and third place went to Keith Leavitt of Price. Mr. Thomas also displayed a plaque upon which the names of the three winners was Inscribed. The new officers elected for next year include: Louis Bunnel, Helper, president; Fuzzy Clear Creek, and Shep Olson, Castle Gate, vice presidents; Catherine Leavitt, Price, secretary, and Athena Vignetto, Price, treasurer. Weis-ma- n, County team. Each coach was allowed to vote for players on opposing teams, but was not allowed to cast a ballot for one of his own . players. ( Helper Junior High had a slight edge on the final selections as they placed four players on each of the first and second teams. East Carbon and Price followed close behind with three players on each squad, and little Notre Dame had one representative on each team. Honorable Mention: Banquet Held on Thanksgiving by Community Church The Young Peoples Society of the Dragerton Community Church held a Thanksgiving banquet last Friday evening with thirty-tw- o to enjoy a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings. There were young people from Hiawatha and Price as guests. The tables were beautifully decorated for the holiday occasion. The decorating committee consisted of Barbara Jean Steel, Kathryn Dean Steel and Phyllis Rose. M. - - -- Recent Safety Improvements and Adherence To the Federal Code Commended In Report The 769 workers and officials of the Geneva mine at Horse Canyon, Emery County, Utah, are commended in a federal coal mine inspection report released safety imtoday by the Bureau of Mines for a dozen recent provements and practically full adherence to the Federal Mine Safety Code. Operated by the Geneva Steel company, this mine was reinspected in October by IL E. Wetzel. Only two deviations from the Safety Code were reported. Men were riding under the trolley wire in the surfaceof 5,000-ton-a-d- ay pending the arrival cars on order, and ""man-tri- p, Membership was discussed to some extent after which Helen Day of Helper was appointed by the president as the membership chairman. All-St- ar First Team Harry Abeyta, East Carbon Vaughn Wilson, Price Husky Arlen Newell, guard on the East Caarbon squad was chosen as the outstanding lineman in the league. Tom Ossana from Helper was chosen the outstanding back. East Carbons- Harry Abeyta, leading scorer In the league was the only freshman to be chosen for the first string honor team. In the fullback position. East Carbon had a monopoly with Clark Neil chosen as first team, and Louie Grevon as second team fullback. Clyde Moore, durable East Carbon tackle, was given a berth on the second team as a reward for his steady play during the campaign. tittle Billy Faddis, clever freshman quarterback was named for second team honors- - to grab another all star berth for the East Carbon team. During the season's play, Help- - ' er annexed the title by virtue of a five won and one loss record. East Carbon ' and Price shared second place honors with a three won, two loss record. Plucky little Notre Dames flighting squad played some close games, but were unable to break, into the win column in their six league encounters. Junior High football is becoming increasingly popular in Carbon county. Since Carbon High is but a two year institution, their grid players must gain their grid experience early, learn football fundamentals, learn to win fairly and lose graciously in the countys junior high schools. The quality of football players in this seasons junior high games heralds a bright future for the grid sport at Carbon High School.
