Show c 's ( . Serving Draper-to- n, Sunnyside, and Sunnydale Columbia. Combined population Volume Last Tuesday night at the weekly meeting of the newly formed Quarterback club, a list of the new directors was read and approved. The directors and the area they represent is as follows: Gene Plaga, Helper; Vernon Lund, Dragerton; R. D. Faddis, Sunnydale, Sunnyside, and Columbia; Curt Harris, Kenilworth and Spring Glen; Tom Hilton, Castle Gate, Royal; Tom Jackson, Hiawatha, Wattis; D. D. Lindstrom, Peerless, Latuda, Rains, Standard, National and Spring Canyon. Following the regular business of the group, a round table diswas held. cussion of athletics Coach Summerhays discussed the football Grand Junction-Carbo- n game, telling how the injuries received in that game might hamper the Carbon team in, the game with Jordan High' School. He also told of the lineup he intended to use in the Jordan game, and gave a few hints as to the methods and system that he was going to rely on 'to beat the Jordan team. INTERESTING PERSONALITIES v 4 gra - j V T The Dragerton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a false alarm last Wednesday night at 7:03 p. m. The alarm box was West. between 2nd d Fire Chief Fred Johnson wishes to again emphasize the dangers of setting pff a false alarm. Besides the danger of a speeding fire truck injuring someone, there is also a danger of a fire elsewhere during the time the sirjen is operating. Under the present wiring afrar.ge-menof the fire alarm system, if the circuit is broken by a fa.se alarm, until that false alarm has been detected and the circuit restored a real fire cannot be detected at the control box in the fire station. It might happen that if a real fire occurred during the time that the false alarm was being located that serious damage would result due to the fact that the firemen would have no way of knowing where the real fire was located. Sheriff Robert Brush also nas some criticism of the drivers who follow . the fire truck when it is on a run. The law provides When police cars, fire engines, ambulances or other emergency vehicles signal with a siren or bell they have right of way and you should drive at once to the rigut side of the road and stop to let them go by. Unless on official business, you must not follow closer than 500 feet to fire apparatus responding to an alarm, nor drive into or park in the block where. n fire apparatus has stopped to answer an alarm. Sheriff Brush announces that he will arrest anyone who violates these state laws. These laws are made for your own safety. Many drivers in Dragerton have been violating these laws but it must be stopped. j RETURNS Dr. Fred Jones, who has been studying childrens dentistry since the middle of September in San Francispo, will return to his home in Price on 'October 2, with his family.. ARTHUR F. SHIVELEY One of the newcomers to Drag-erte- n, but one who is already well known is Arthur Shiveley, better known as Art. Art has been in Dragerton since March of this year managing the service station. Art hails from the Windy City' of Chicago. He was born September 22, 1905. He spent his early life m Chicago and was graduated from the Robert Tilden High School in 1923. After completing high school he worked in the U. S. postoffice for three years. From postal clerk he went to work in the real estate business and then later to the Reliable Transit Co., working in Chicago, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. four He spent the following years in the service of the National Guard, being with the full Provisionary Battalion of Artillery at Camp Custer, Battle Creek Michigan. In 1924 this National Guard unit made an over-lan- d movement operation with horses only as motive power. This was th first unit to make this thip. Frog soldier to ticket agent was Arts next step. The fuel oil will be handled through the Dragerton Service Station of the Union Supply Company. The Union Supply Company has purchased a large tank truck equipped with a 75 ft. hose, a pump and measuring gauge. They expect to make house to house deliveries and thus insure that every home has an adequate supply of fuel oil at all times. They stated in their letter that it is necessary that all residents of Dragerton who do not have an account with the Union Supply Store sign the necessary authoriza-- I tion papers immediately at' the service station so that the delivery trucktruck can fill their tanks without delay. GRIDDERS LOSE TO JORDAN Jordan High School gridders spent Saturday night in Price playing the role of Dinosaur slayers, The final score in the lopsided battle was Jordan 35, Carbon 0. The heavier Jordan team lost no time proving that they were the better team, running up a 21 to 0 lead in the first half, and scoring twf more times in the last half. One bright spot in the evenings play for Carbon was the brilliant playing of a substitute halfback, Darrel Crawford, a Columbia boy. who for a while had Carbon looking like a match for the Jordan team. Crawfords hard blocking, tackling, and phenominal ball carrying had a partisan crowd on their feet time and again. Earl Lacey,. Dragerton, playing the fullback spot, also starred for the losing team.
