The actual trapping and shipping of the birds has been under the direction of D Gardiner Bump of th? U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service as the result of an agreement with this Federal Service and the department to obtain this and other game bird species for the state. The experiment to establish the redleg partridge in Utah is being conducted in an effort to add another upland game bird to the states wildlife resources. Should the pilot plantings of these birds prove successful a program for further introduction wTill be carried out. The department noted that the rodlegs are smaller than the other partridge but are somewhat larger than California quail common to the state. Their habitat in Utah would include the low elevation valleys where the. winters are less severe than is common in many sections. .
