Peacock, General Partner) The personal interest in television of the Oscar Carlson, Jr., manager of Miners Trading Post, Sunnyside, Utah, led to the spending of about $600 for different housetop antennas in an attempt to find out if it was feasible to receive television in this area. This attempt was made with absolutely no experience and no knowledge of the technicalities of television. With the housetop antennas a weak signal of about 10 to 15 microvolts was received. It was later learned that the very minimum for a satisfactory picture is 100 microvolts. In the beginning some had the false idea that the signal could be amplified from the ''s 10,to 15 microvolts to, the . neces. sary 100 microvolts, so two types done. As soon as more knowledge of television was gained, it was learned that this is impossible due to the fact that the signal from an antenna can be amplified, but it can-nbe improved. Vera Preston and ifamily Election in CarboA 18 Court of Honor The leeway election to raise the local school property tax by 4Vfe mills or approximately $135,000 annually passed by a close margin of two to one. Is that bad? Well that depends! Who gets what? and when? What will the money be spent for? What benefits will come to the children of Carbon county as a result of giving the Superintendent an additional $1,350,000 every ten years. The coming legislature will be asked for additional money as suggested by the teachers of Salt Lake City. Then the local leeway will again be raised. This we should keep in mind! The "Great Spenders" who come to you asking that you give them more and more money to spend in the name of your children may in reality be deliberately robbing your children of their heritage what is worse, they will leave and them a legacy of heart-ache- s debts. backbreaking - Hosts Clubs Culture Number Copy 5c An outstanding social event of the season occurred Thursday night at the Dragerton school library.
