Commission members electee Golden G. Sanderson as their new chairman. Sanderson succeeds K E. Bullock, of Provo, who has filled this post during the past two years. The chairmanship normally alternates between the commission members every two years. Commission members, reprsent-in- g the five fish "and game districts of the state, include K. E, Bullock, Golden G. Sanderson o Fairview, J. Allen Browne of Price, W. Rulon White of Ogden, and Robert B. Mitchell of Para wan. This body sets the policy under which the Department of Fish and Game operates. Approval was given the Department to purchase its first airplane This equipment will be used for range and game survey work as well as in planting small fish in to, high elevation, lakefs. Purchase of a snow-cwas also authorized for use in the winter game management program. Other commission actions taken during the two days of meetings include the following: Set the opening date of phpas ant season for 1955 to be Friday, November 11. Bag limit, legnth of season, and other governing regulations for this hunt will be set by commission action in September following the determination of available birds from the off-the-ro- ad at Approved hatching and growing season. Scheduled regulations covering the holding of field dogt trials under the new law as passed by the recent state legislative session. Upon written application such trials may be approved for bona-fid- e field dog organizations and must be held under supervision of department personnel. Approved extension of the commercial seining season, on Utah Lake only( through May 15- - The spring furbearer season (muskrat) was extended through June 1. Studied plans for landscaping and parking area at department headquarters property and approved same. Granted a $4,000 yearly appropriation for the training of fisheries students at the Utah State Agricultural College Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit. Approved a spring capital outlay program covering construction and repair work at Springville and Glenwood hatcheries, the Price game farm and Logan game bird sanctuary. Authorized purchase of water pumps for Beaver hatchery to augment existing water supply from a recently, drilled well at that property. Denied offers to purchase fish rearing facilities near Duchesne and Salt Lake City when offering survey investigative for Topaz Lake area in. Millard county. Use of this area for fish, wildlife, and recreational purposes was recently granted the department by federal authority. Disapproved application for two leases covering department lands. Approved three year .extension wildlife and water-foof state-wid- e management studies. Both are Federal Aid supported proj- wl ects. land deApproved state-wid- e velopment project with Federal Aid cooperation. Approved establishment of posted pheasant hunting unit in Weber county. Sanctioned purchase of state trucks for the four department beaver trappers. Extended lease on department land near the mounth of Daniels Canyon. Studied suggested safety measures concerning gun handling during hunting season and referred same to the Utah Board of Big Game Control for that bodys action.
