Last year American corporations made record sales of goods some $500,000,000,-00- 0 and services worth. But net profits were substantially lower than in 1951 averaging only 5.4 cents on each sales dollar. The decline was largely due to taxes. postwar Taking the 1946-5- 2 years, it is found that corporate net profits rose by $3,200,000,000. In the same period, by comparison, compensation to employes inwell creased by $73,000,000,000 over twenty times as much. The moral is plain profits are a small factor in the price we must pay for things. Special reprint for those who did not see these quotations from the Dan Valentine column of May 6. They are from the sayings of Fielding L. K. Smat Smith : His recipe for death on the highway: Take one natural-bor- n fool, two or three big drinks of liquor, and one fast automobile; soak fool in liquor, place in car and turn loose. After due time remove fool from wreckage, place in satin lined box and garnish with flowers. SmitlT also remarked that: the biggest turnover in the automobile business takes place on the highways : He also points out that if there were less jaywalking in downtown Salt Lake City, people wouldnt be scraping up so many acquaintances." Valentine then concludes that: Its amazing the number of people in America who are smart enough to pay for an automobile but are too dumb to drive one! - $900,000 monthly payroll 7,000 population Sunday night, May the 10th, approximately "47 students of the Seminary, presented the program at the Sacrament meeting in Dragerton school house.
