Whether adults have completed high school or not, they are welcome to enroll in any class or any number of classes up to a total of 18 hours of credit during this quarter. President Jones points out that if adults will come into school and take from five to 10 hours a quarter, it will be possible to be graduated from the col- placement Training battalion will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, in the Price municipal building. It was emphasized by the unit instructor, Captain R. B. Gunn, that an attempt is being made to recruit sufficient personnel in the Carbon county area to warrant the reorganization of this unit into a troop program unit which will be authorized at least two paid assemblies each month. It is felt that a unit of this type will BONDS MANY OTHER VALUABLE PRIZES All Proceeds Go Entertainment, Games, Concessions Carbon College Spring Speer WILL BE GIVEN AWAY Adult Attractions, Refreshments, UPSTAIRS . be particularly advantageous to individuals between the ages of 17 and 19 years fer it will permit them to fulfill a large portion of their reserve obligation prior to their entry into active duty and during the periods they are pursuing a course of instruction in high -- school or junior college which will relieve them of their reserve obligation during the subsequent period during which time they will be establishing themselves in a business or profession. In addition to fulfilling a portion of their reserve obligation, individuals could enter on active duty in the grade of private first class or higher, and in some instances be ordered direct to officers candidate school from their reserve status. This, of course, Captain Gunn stated, depends upon the time spent in the reserve and the effort exerted by the individual. An individual can complete a five or .six-dreserve obligation in from three to four years by actively participating in a unit of this type. Coal-Europ- es to Community Projects Ills Time magazine recently said the basic cause of Europes ills Is inadequate coal production. The shortage, in Times view, underlies Europes dollar deficiencies, its currency distempers, and its chronic sweat and tears. In Western Europe, it threatens to undo much of what the Marshall Plan accomplished or was expected to accomplishrBehind theIronCur-tai- n it blocks ambitious Commu- nist five-ye- ar plans. The statistics are significant. Europes industrial output has risen 40 per cent above pre-wdays. But coal output, on which so many basic industries depend, is down seven per cent. Even Britain, which used to be the worlds foremost exporter of coal, is unable to produce enough to stoke her own fires and furnaces. So Europe must spend more and ar more of its dollar reserves for American coal. There is a lesson in all this for those who have believed that. the emergence of other fuels has greatly lessened the importance of coal as a source of heat, light and energy. Coal has been and is a basic, irreplaceable element in the operation of industry and the maintenance of a modern economy. Its one of those resources we simply cant get along There is also a lesson in Europes travails for those who have listened to the siren songs of the socialists. Abroad, where coal is either owned or controlled by government, it has been impossible to meet even a minimum demand. Here, where the coal industry is free and competitive, the industry mines every pound of coal that can be used as a matter of routine.
