Every single person who knows or will know Bernice and who remembers this comic will feel more justified in labeling her as a reject. Along with this, while attending Dixie College to further her education and expand her mind, Bernice will permanently have the stigma of social deviant. God forbid if 1 ever do anything unacceptable, especially in front of Stephen Workman; it might get published in the college newspaper. "Rebels Ranked No. 1" in the Wednesday, October 13th edition of The Sun. In my excitement of reading this article, with the pride welling up in my gut, I quickly realized that not our team, but a football, had taken number one in the nation. I pondered on the mistake, and how it could have possibly made it past several clearly talented writers, publishers, and editors. I was just disappointed that such an elementary mistake could be made and could be used to further the status Dixie has in some already parts of the state. Free advice is worth what you pay for it. That being the case, here's my free advice: read the articles that are to be printed in the paper before they make it to press. Whether your editors or your faculty advisor are aware or not, this sorry excuse for humor is a blatant and shameless ridicule directed at one of our students. This unwarranted and condescending attack on this valuable person is a slap in the face to everything our democratic society represents, and does a great disservice to all of our students. Although no names were mentioned, I do know very well to who this young man was referring to. This really offends me as her friend, and I would like the joke about her to be discontinued in this comic strip (since Mr. Workman wrote to be continued). One of the reasons we are here in this life is to gain a tolerance and appreciation for others, and their differences. I do not think Mr. Workman meant to be as rude as he was, but please your 'criticism towards others before you publish it. I Katrina Gubler Dixie College student Dear Editor, The Oct. 13 issue of The Sun featured an insensitive cartoon drawn by Stephen Workman. Though names werent used, it is quite obvious to a large portion of the student body that this was a personal attack on The Sun a disadvantaged person.
